Talking of Lego I tend to find myself drawn into any Lego shops when we visit a city that has one.
Usually at the back of the store is an assortment of odd bits and pieces which can be bought by the tub….
Lots of ‘useful’ bits can be obtained such as ‘square fours’ which are great for false wagon loads, corner strengthners for scratch built buildings etc, and on a recent visit some odd grey bits, which make fantastic bridge supports etc ( suitably clad).

Hopefully not long now till the arrival of the Palbricks, wonder if the stanchion issue has been sorted.
Still it’s an easy enough job to repaint them …………

The Hornby one appears to be die cast, it’s certainly heavy enough.
Apart from the ‘decking’ the finish is generally excellent, tho you won’t see much of it in a day or two…l.

I can’t see what the two screws do either ( yup I’ve undone them) as it doesn’t seem to secure the ‘floor’.
The models ok, but I’m not sure I’d have paid over £40 for it and bearing in mind the RRP is something like…..£47!
Still by the time I’ve tarted it up I think it will pass muster.

Got mine ( at a great price) yesterday.
Lovely model, only thing is the decking on mine had an almost gloss like finish.
Not a problem for me as it’ll soon be weather and have a suitable load added.
Very nice indeed.

Greetings one and all.
Generic best wishes and new year felicitations.
Does anyone have any update on Chris F? I’ve tried looking online for funeral dates etc but can’t find anything.
I doubt very much if I’d be able to go, but I’d certainly like to raise a glass of something’s suitable.
Mention of mattresses reminds me of sleeping on a straw stuffed one in an open hut in the middle of the Oolu (jungle) whilst with the R.M.
Very comfortable but the thing actually became alive at night!

Seasons greetings one and all……Christmas Eve, how did that arrive so quickly?
Well after last years covid fiasco we are all really looking forward to a great festive few days.
Family meal tonight ( at a superb local Nepalese restaurant) and all the clan here tomorrow for a festive treat of over indulgence in just about everything.
Closing down for a few days, but before I do it’s time to say to you all to have the very best Christmas you can.
I know all our circumstances differ, but I for one am so delighted to still be here.
Thoughts with you who are poorly, or alone, and in particular thoughts to those that we have lost this year, especially dear old Chris.
Take care all and a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Greetings one and all from a balmy ( barmy?) Kernow.
Looks like it’s warmed up nicely down ere.
Rain overnight and more on its way. Went to bed with everything frozen solid, thought we’d get some nice snow falls but it’s wet, wet, wet.
Tho not a regular contributor, I visit several times a day, and sadly missing Chris Fs gentle posts.
He might not have appreciated how much time and care people had for him.
Busy week ahead, lots of socials to go to and hopefully make up from last year as my Christmas was cancelled as I ( and everyone else in the house) had Covid.
To be fair none of us really new, the only way we found out was by testing…..well that won’t be happening again!
Take care and stay safe, the countdown to Chrimbo has begun!

Such sad news about Chris, a good friend and stalwart of RM Web, and Early risers in particular.
I used to enjoY his company and knowledge when he attended the SWAG get togethers and would endure my gentle pee taking in good humour because of the gentleman he was.
I messaged him through FB several days ago, and now sadly know why I hadn’t received a reply.
At least having come out , he was hopefully able to enjoy his last few years as himself.
I shall miss his daily ramblings, his updates on gigs ( his cd collection must be vast) and his regular updates re marching in Pride.
I hope he is at peace.

Re Solihull…..Nothing is worse than dealing with the death of children.
I can remember each and every one with absolute clarity.
It never goes away.
My thoughts to the families and to the emergency services who attended.
Still no news on Chris, I hope we will hear good news soon.

Greetings one and all…… on a cold and frosty morning, lovely!
Well for what ist worth from me…….Envy of the world so we are told…The NHS needs saving.
The NHS is one of the top ten employers in…….the WORLD.
It has a budget of £200 billion.
The only thing the NHS needs saving from, is itself.
* No news on Chris F, I’ve messaged him a few times but not had a reply. He hasn’t been on FB for a several days either.
Hope all is ok with him.

Would it have been seasonal though? Would enough be shot to warrant a monthly service? Daily?I don’t know I’m just thinking aloud!
We have a photo somewhere of father in law ( he was a farmer in S.E.Cornwall) where they had been out rabbit shooting overnight.
This was pre myxomatosis but was sometime in the early 50’s.
They had blagged over 300 rabbits and 6 foxes….. all from a 160 acre mixed farm.
It shows just how bad the level of rabbits could be.
They sold a regular supply to local butchers at ( I think) a shilling a go!

So, is there a difference between a screenshot….and a download?

I’d certainly agree that the end braces appear dirty as opposed to being painted.
The above ( excellent) pictures speak for themselves.

I buy the generic stuff from EBay…..in litre Polyethylene (?) bottles…..never had one leak yet.

If you’re a modeller, then you’ll work it out, make compromises and make it work. Simples.
-
We discard the top and bottom ( ie the 5 and 1s) and just look at the middle…..gives a much more balanced and realistic assessment.
Just look at 4 in a bed to see how daft it can get.

My first version of my layout , Carrick Road, was in a room smaller than that.
It featured several times in ModelRail…..see if you can find back copies.
Thats a good sized room for a layout, you just have to be creative with what you have.
