  1. Hmmm.  The car was built in 1955 and the RDG started using the speed lettering in 1956, so it may have had speed lettering after a repaint, but without the herald.

Thank you for your comment Dave.

#73009 was built in September 1919 and the class were all scrapped by 1964. I couldn’t get the correct decals for this car so I used what I had with the intension of amending the build date before weathering but I forgot so I will patch it out later and add the correct date. This particular car, the 73009, was scrapped in 1959 and as you say, speed lettering wasn’t introduced until 1956 so it may not have carried this livery!

I have a photo of this car in the old “Roman lettering” and it carries the herald so I don’t have an issue with that.

  2. Always liked the six axle RDG locos in the green & yellow livery, especially the big Alco C630`s,but i did often wonder what one would have looked like in the soild green scheme as well..... :scratchhead:

I too started with the Reading when i first went to US O,Mainly because Atlas had just brought out the C425`s & GP35`s.(how i wish i still had them!)

Managed to pick up quite a few loco`s at the time, but sold them on after a few years......other roads bekoned!.

And like yourself i only one photo from then.......

Looking at it now,i realise how ropey the weathering job was!.

    Cheers,

    Brian.

PS you know you want to re-paint the GP7.........

I would love to re-paint it Brian but, apart from not wanting to hack around with this lovely loco, I have too many irons in the fire with not enough time to do everything I want to do.

  3. Bill,

your GP-7 looks beautiful! Do you really will change the paint?

    Thank you Jack.

No, I am not going to repaint it now mainly because I have too many other things to do, but also because it is just too nice to tamper with. As you know, a house move is on the cards and that has kept me very busy this past couple of months, so I have done very little in the railway room.

  4. That reminds me of one of our esteemed Members here, who took a perfectly good, innocent HO scale Geep in the rather wonderful Soo Line livery, & vandalised repainted it into this 'silver wasp stripes' livery.

Despite doing a pretty good job of that repaint, I can't help but think that said Member should be forced to buy this Geep from you, & repaint it into Soo Line Red & White, as punishment... :jester:

... besides, all US-outline enthusiasts should try O Scale anyway. ;)

The man is a vandal and should hang his head in shame! Besides, it would be a good introduction to 0-Scale for him!!

  5. Sound`s and run`s nice willy.

At least you have the correct model Geep to start with.

I`m going to do the same at some point, but i`ve got a GP9 (un-powered) to play with so it`s going to be a bit of a project!.

Which livery are you going to re-paint you GP7 in?

I thought about modeling #614 the only solid green GP7,but as i have the only solid green GP35 (#3640) sat here,it might be a bit over kill!.

    Cheers,

    Brian.

    Thank you Brian

The solid ‘light’ green GP7 was an option but I had decided, if I had gone ahead, I would have painted it in the two tone Green/Cream livery as #619. I once did an HO GP7 (#609) in the old ‘dark’ green livery but I sold it many years ago when I joined the RCT&HS and decided to go 0-scale. I also did the unique solid green GP35 #3640 in HO but it went the way of all the others and the only photo I can find now is this SD45 in the “Bee Line” livery.

  6. This car started life as a 3-rail Atlas 0-scale PRR USRA 55T Coal Hopper. I converted it to 2-rail and replaced the ‘K’ type brake gear with the ‘AB’ type. Apart from adding Kadee couplings I think perhaps it may need a bit more work?

Although these cars never carried the ‘speed lettering’ I wanted to see what it would look like with this livery!

  7. I have some spare fans & grills like that salvaged off an HO model. If you can paint them grey they're yours, & if you can wait a couple of weeks as I'm away at the moment. ;)

That’s great, thank you very much and there is no rush. With a ‘near enough’ grey and a bit of weathering, that would be perfect. I will PM you with my address.

  8. I have a Proto2000 UP GP60 and I have lost a couple of fan grills as shown below.

I have searched the Modeljunction website but they dont seem to have anything like this in stock so short of approaching Walthers, has anyone got any idea where I might find replacements in the UK?

    Thank you.

  9. Thank you Norman.

I have done as you suggest and unfortunately the problem persists and when I fit the decoder from the other loco to this board there is no problem!

The other thing is, the ‘faulty’ decoder gets very hot and I don’t know if that is significant!

    Thanks again.

    Willy

After an email to DCC Supplies they agreed to take the decoder back and check it. They confirmed that it was faulty and they replaced it under warranty.

  10. Atlas parts used to be the same to the UK as the Domestic rate, $4 I think it was (unless you ordered O scale bodyshells !!), but since the new website has been up and running it has gone up to $10 or $11, still not bad, and it all comes in a nice solid box.

There are parts diagrams for some of the stock, otherwise you have to trawl through each items listing, and not all items are in stock - and ignore the pictures ........

Thanks again Mick, I would never have thought of Atlas. I have had a look through their website and I took the plunge and ordered what I hope will be suitable and as you say, the postage was only $4! Amazing after the prices I was quoted elsewhere.

  11. I know you don't want to get from the US if possible, but have you looked at the Atlas parts site. I get a lot of parts from them and the postage isn't bad. So far I havn't had to pay any VAT.

Thank you Mick. Yes, I have considered buying from the US but I hadn’t considered Atlas. Postage is an issue these days and I was hoping that someone might have a couple of bits in their spares box.

  12. I am looking for several sets of 0-scale Ajax brake housing (or similar) if anyone has surplus they would like to sell please? I don’t necessarily need the brake wheel!

I am also looking for 0-scale AB brake sets to convert a couple of Atlas hoppers that have the older K type.

    Thanks.

  13. I will  be attending the first Bangor MRC show with Campbell Riverside  on 26th & 27th May. The show boasts a great collection of various model layout and gauges spread across the church buildings. Public transport is in close proximity with Bangor train / bus station situated within a five minute walk from the show.

Thanks for the link. I might take a run up to Bangor on the Saturday.

  14. I don't know. I've just found this hopper on the group named: "American O-Scale in the UK". A guy was selling two hoppers and told us if anybody want them...

I am glad you like it Jacky and I am looking forward to seeing it completed. I will contact you later.

  16. I have a problem with a sound fitted decoder on one of my Terriers and I have searched here, and elsewhere, and I cannot see it mentioned so my apologies if I am repeating something that has already been discussed.

The loco was working fine but it has been laid up for several months. I thought I would give it a run to make sure it is still working but I find that, although it starts to move normally, after several seconds it stops of no apparent reason. If I don’t touch it, it will move off again as normal. It can go for 30 seconds or so before this happens or it may be only a couple of seconds, there is no pattern. It doesn’t stop at the same place in the revolution nor does it stop the sound! I then swopped the decoder for the one in my other Terrier and the problem follows the decoder! I have tried to reset the decoder but, although it will respond to the throttle, it will not read the CVs!

Has anyone else come across a similar problem?

    Thank you.
