  1. A few pictures of the install. Lightboards and cab lights going in. I particularly like these light kits, nice and yellow, perfect for blue locomotives! first speaker in. And the second. Everything going well, the only little issue I have just twigged on is the fact I am going to have to shave off a bit of the metal chassis nose ends to get the body back on Angle grinder anyone?
  2. I have started work on the big 40. I know this model is getting on a bit, and a new one is on the way, but it still captures the bulk of these huge lumbering beasts, and by the time it has some detailing and a bit of weathering, it's going to look pretty decent. Today I added the sound decoder and 2 speakers. 1 in the under chassis tanks, and 1 under the fan. It sounds pretty decent. I'll post a few pictures of the work so far in a bit, but here's a video for now.
  3. A video of my at last full rake HST bombing around the layout! And yes I know the rake needs weathering and renumbering, but sometimes it's just good fun to watch something racing around
  4. Cheers guys. Jon, the cabinet is built buy myself. Offcuts of plywood for the main carcase, a sheet of clear perspex for the front cover, and some bargain led strip lights purchased ages ago from Maplins, for 'one of those projects.' Knew they would come in handy!!
  5. 37081 and 56133 have had their basic livery colours applied. As well as the DRS pair... This beast is having sound, lights, and weathering. God bless Modelzone with their 50% off airbrush cleaner Started fitting lights to my display cabinet. Added some strips of balsa to hide the lights from the front of the case. Perspex front cover added.
  6. Yellow is the colour....... At long last, duff 035 has its proper Stratford identity. [/url] [/ DSC_0007 by rothburyuk, on Flickr url] The freightliner crane has been given a good tidy up, and a few new logos, weathering next.
  7. Cheers mate, thought as much. I'll see if I can pick another body up.
  8. Good morning. Chaps, I have a class 47 body in my possession, that I have been asked to paint in plain blue. Only problem is, it's a refurbishedoone, with the cut back buffer beam cab end lower edges, and flush end marker lights. Did any blue locos have this variant?
  9. Good evening Colin. I have dry brushed some gloss varnish over the base colour
  10. A few shots of some stuff that has been properly finished off today. A pair of 25's that have had cab lights fitted. Just weathered this one, not my conversion. 67 and PCV.
  11. Indeed, I have just had a break from the indoor heat by repairing the garage roof, DOH!
  12. Another batch of repaints started. First off is a large logo 56, I have added some replacement Shawplan etched roof grilles. They are a bit tricky to fit, I had to build up a small lip for the grille to sit on. Easier to see from the picture. You can see the lip added on the left hand recess. All primed out in the glorious sunshine! Locos to be done this time, 56 large logo 37 large logo 37 DRS 37 DRS. And a quick shot of the track I have just weathered on the new diorama.
  13. What better way to spend the day than pottering around in the sunshine, with my new photographic diorama, and a pile of recently weathered locos? 26. 85. 67. Nse 50. Check out the cant! 47035 on ballast duties. One of my better shots. I am surprised how good these look taken outdoors. I hope you enjoy, I certainly enjoyed taking this latest batch!
  14. I think its fair to say today has been a busy modelling day. Busy, yet productive! First off, 37692 has been finished. I'm pretty chuffed with this, first time I have ever painted my own transfers. The snowplough has been weathered. Next, a Replica PCV which is in for transfers, light fitting, and weathering. Unfortunately some of the transfers were so old, they just fell to bits! I'll source some more this evening. (Job number 2047 on the list ) Drilling the existing lenses out. Fitted pickups. A quick test to make sure everything works. Everything tidied up and properly installed. Next, at long last, a new diorama has been started. Off to the layout thread!
  15. Nowt on telly tonight....... Detailing and new numbers added, ready for weathering. Right. That's me finished for the night!
  16. Today I have mostly been..... Renumbering a 67. Weathered this strange looking jobbie. And after all of the work described yesterday, got the weathering onto the bodyside of 37692.
  17. Every now and again, a friend will ask for a job to be done that sounds simple enough, and then turns into a 'why did I say yes to this' sort of job I was given a class 37 that had been well weathered on one bodyside, but for whatever reason, really heavily weathered on the other. It's the owners pride and joy, and he asked me to restore it to a lighter state of weathering. No problem I thought, a quick wipe over with t-cut, then a blow over with the airbrush, and Bob's your uncle. Not quite. To get the top coat of varnish and weathering off, I found the easiest and least destructive way was to use a cocktail stick, or rather about 200 of them  I didn't want to damage the original paint finish, but the process brought a little bit of the light grey lower paintwork off, and also some of the sector markings. So.... the bottom light grey has been resprayed in a few places, the slight colour variation will disappear when weathered. A first for me, I have resprayed the 4 black diamonds, and the rear black square behind the 4 diamonds. The bodyside number was slightly damaged, so I will replace this. Ditto with the tops loco sticker. Bodyside grilles have all been repainted. All remaining traces of varnish were then removed, quite tricky as all of the etched arrows, nameplates etc are glued on and I didn't want to disturb them. Next jobs are to add new numbers and tops panel, seal it all with a nice fresh even coat of matt varnish, and then finally try to match the existing weathering on the rest of the loco. It's actually turned into a very enjoyable project, I never thought I had it in me to spray my own transfers lol! Regards, Lee. P.S. I really should have taken a picture of the loco before starting work, but clean forgot.
  18. That is unfortunate mate, It's been a good few Years since we have had some decent hot weather like we are experiencing now!
