Did well to capture not just one, but two alien interstellar cruisers in that photo. Have you tried selling it to The National Enquirer?
😛 Nice thought, but I'm not in it for the money - just keep watching the skies, the truth is out there!
I have a natural talent for things like that when taking photos - not just the extra terrestrials; also note the perfectly framed brick wall and the beautifully off-centre and sloping composition of the locomotive itself...

Might narrow things down a bit further - still only semi-custard in Sept 1977 - 002 at Crewe works 24/09/77:

His car is really very, very nice indeed.
Ah, the 'Bellini'!
Great film - my all time favourite.
The Bellini was actually a very nice Aston Martin DB3S which I'm sure you knew, and apparently still exists: https://www.bonhams.com/press_release/21588/

Can someone please enlighten me as to which preserved railway is featured on that house buyer advert with the Class 31?
I'm open to correction, but I think it might be North Weald Station on the Epping Ongar Railway.

All I can think of for "H OFF" is perhaps to tell the drivers to switch their headcode lights off on arrival? Don't think it's anything to do with Baywatch anyway.

One of those "saw this and thought of this thread" photos - might be useful for reference some time.

I certainly don’t agree that these are ‘minor errors’ or ‘nit-picking’ IF the model is different on one side to the other – I’m surprised (very surprised) that given the notoriously ‘rivet-counting’ world of the model railway fraternity to even consider the potential errors to be acceptable! (Would we accept a model of say, a Crosti 9F to have a funnel on the side, but the pre-heater blanked off as per rebuild for example? It would be that sort of howler).
But do we actually KNOW that it will be?
Has anyone seen an actual production version? (KR seem to be poor in the dissemination of information for this model particularly, and could certainly learn much from Accurascale in the PR stakes, in this respect)
Is what we have seen so far merely been pre-production EPs that attempt to show all variations possible? But there is nothing on their website…
However, as stated previously in this thread, it would have the best outcome to model a known ‘correct’ version of the loco rather than guessing (they will have missed the truth if they have produced a loco with mis-matched sides). This locomotive was always symmetrical – why the designers would specify 2 nose vents on one side and 4 the other beggars belief, as there is an engine on both sides behind those vents which would need the same cooling rates surely?
Although it’s first 3 years (1951-1953) are a bit ‘fuzzy’ regarding it’s appearance, the final 6 years (if you take into account that it was complete until broken up in 1960) of the locomotive were without change (apart from paint). It’s this last version that would be the best bet, as we KNOW that was what it looked like (re: Photo on page 21 of this thread: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/149392-kr-models-announce-the-fell-in-oo-and-n/&do=findComment&comment=4524215)
Just for completeness and information to those that may not be aware, I’ve attempted to show the 5 known variations of the locomotive with rough dates below – any one of these variations would be good – as long as it is the same on BOTH sides:
I guess we will only know when KR actually show us a production version or communicate what they have created, and I have a nagging fear that they were too far down the road before confirming evidence came to light. Given its relative obscurity, perhaps it was thought that general punters wouldn’t know better?
Hope not – we just need KR to speak, and all this waffle will be moot.

Thanks Ian - it was always said that the station was built the wrong way round - hence the 'temporary' entrance and the 'proper' one. There was a lovely 'porte-cochère' at the true entrance that was used for goods, and the people of Birkenhead always said that it had a 'Queen Anne' back, and a 'Mary Anne' front!
I do have the RCTS book, and agree it's a good read, but I can't find the info re: ticket office in it, but thanks anyway.

Dredging up an old topic, but I can't find anything on the ticket office arrangements at Woodside (and I can't remember as I was only 8 when it closed).
Does anyone know where the ticket office was, what it looked like, or even better, have a photo or a link they can point me at?
My best guess is that it could be the white, almost pre-fab type structure in the photo below, but anything clearer would be fantastic. If it wasn't that, I was wondering if it was in the intended 'proper' entrance building (that no-one used) on the dry dock side of the station? I certainly can't see anything on the 'common' entrance side.
Any help much appreciated!

When I used to read such a thing, the 'comic' 2000 AD used to have a strip called 'Nemesis the Warlock'. I always enjoyed the Edwardian 'steampunk' look, and before I'd even heard of steampunk, it was probably my first experience of the genre.
Some of the transport depicted was rather good, I thought. Take a look at this link - the steam iron man/robot pulling the tram, and the 'Equatorial Express' are about halfway down the page:

Good list of 1950s/60s specials here: https://www.fordspecials.co.uk/index.html
It does look a lot like the EB, although the leading edge of the door seems to parallel the windscreen rake - which the EB does not. I'm not convinced that one is glassfibre though - my own special of the era wouldn't crumple like that! (The glassfibre is pretty thick)

Wondering if anything has changed over the weekend regarding page names or indexing? None of my Firefox bookmarks linking to RMWeb topics work anymore, and just take me to the forum top-level.
Is this a known thing and I've missed it somewhere?

Great stuff Tony, looks brilliant. I've been following the marathon roof build on your YouTube channel for many months now - and admiring your patience in constucting all those trusses. Thanks for the post - and glad to see you on here!
Birkenhead Woodside 1958-1963
in UK Prototype Questions

Roger - some information in the topic here: Birkenhead Woodside - UK Prototype Questions
Unfortunately, in the RMWeb hosting transition, some of the images have been (up to now) lost, but you might get someting out of it. I'm currently building an 'inspired by' mini-Woodside (I'm working on the station building at the moment), so I would be interested in seeing if your project is viable, and how you get on with it.
I 'may' a have a working timetable somewhere, but with house upheavals, it could take a while for me to find it.
