  1. Thank you to everybody who replied, now I'll go ahead and complete the kits Doing a bit more research I found that the last RCH standard [102 - 103] for rectangular wagons was issued in 1907 and by WW2 they were regarded as 'archaic'. I wonder why they were so popular with tar distillers, the shape must have made them difficult to drain properly. Jeremy
  2. While sorting out my loft I came across a couple of kits of a rectangular tank wagon [similar to the Dapol model]. Does anybody know how late such wagons survived in mainline service. I model BR late 50's so could such wagons be seen that late? One reference states the last two such wagons were built around 1940. Jeremy
  3. According to my copy of the Industrial Railway Societies' handbook the 'Industrial Railways of Scotland' Lady Victoria Colliery never had any MOS Austerity 0-6-0ST locos allocated [J94 only applies to those members of the class purchased by the LNER]. Lady Victoria was best known for its Andrew Barclay and Grant Ritchie 0-4-2STs, which unfortunately I missed seeing. The Grant Ritchie later ended up at the Prestongrange museum and the Barclay, I believe, went to the Tanfield Railway, though I don't know where either of these loco are now. The attached photo was taken of the GR loco at Prestongrange Jeremy
  4. Hi, I've some more photographs of the Waverley route taken after closure on my fotopic site. May 2011: SORRY with the collapse of fotopic these photos are not available at the moment There are also a number of galleries of the line on the DWB Steam gallery, including some taken after closure. I've a particular interest in the line as I'm a member of the Edinburgh & Lothians MRC which is building a layout based on Newcastleton. Jeremy
  5. If you're looking for a track diagram then go to this page on The Signal Box site and do a search for Shankend. Not Shankend, I know, but these photos may be of interest. As mentioned by Chard, Fountainhall was a later replacement {somewhat similar to the Bachmann 'Hampton Hill' box.} Fountainhall Signal Box Heriot was quite an attractive box Heriot Signal Box Jeremy Christie
  6. Regarding the speed of the Clayton, like one or two others here I re-motored my Clayton [using a Mashima 1626 motor]. I now have a loco that runs and pulls well, but appears no faster than it was with the original motor [which is fine by me!]. The motor runs nice and cool, but I did check out the gearboxes as a precaution, Mine seemed fine as regards input shaft end float, but I did ream out the free end bush as there appeared to be a little misalignement, though I don't think it was really required.
