  1. Great photo. A reminder of the variety of traction that we used to enjoy on the WCML. Now this same view would be full of pendolinos. How times change....

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

    It really wouldnt.

Have you been to Crewe recently?  Yes Pendo's feature,  along side many other types of MU  - both D and E,   plus 67's 57's 37's 66's 86's and many others passing through...  Its far from a one unit location.

  2. British OLE was done on the cheap. This means that there is less tension in the wires than elsewhere. Less tension means lower radial loads which means cheaper structures further apart can be used. The downside is not only is our OLE worse at coping with multiple pans and wind, it means it takes less kindly to a pan raising and subsequently bouncing at speed. On the GWML the new equipment has higher tensions so this is less likely to be a problem. On the ECML there may be more concern. However when changing over on the move the Class 800's are designed to raise the pantograph more slowly so as to give more of a 'soft kiss' to our delicate OLE. In this case it is unlikely that raising the pan at line speed will be an issue, providing it is done clear of crossovers, bridges, level crossings or other features which may have an adverse affect.

There isnt much requirement to lower or raise the Pan on the ECML though is there?

  3. Doesn't work. The mk4s, like all other coaching stock uses DC ETH but the HST power cars use 3phase AC for the ETH. Also, you cannot just rectify it as the ETH to the HST coaches is designed it that the AC three phase cycles varies with engine revs, but the voltage stays the same (or is it the phase stays the same and the volts alter, can never remember). This means that the electrics in the ETH on mk3 HST coaches use standard 3phase industrial equipment, doesn't require a motor alternator set (BR had a lot of trouble with these on the AC mk2 coaches), and the AC on the coaches keeps working whatever the engine revs of the power cars, it just works slower at lower revs. It is also why HSTs were classed as DMUs for so long, as the coaches could not be supplied by normal ETH supply.

My post was with a wry smile and tongue moving towards the cheek   - I know it isn't easy to do.

  4. It is sad that it takes a risky venture like the rail exclusive to sort out out Heljans poor design.

Good luck to them.It will take the same investment and risk to make Heljan change their 52, 86 models in 00 gauge presumably. In O gauge like wise

    their class 47.

Did not Bachmann revise their classes 37,45, 47 without such risky intervention?

Seems a bad precedent to pay manufacturers to rework their errors.

You say that but there have been many "special run" commissions for varients of 37 and 47 for Bachmann that will all have contributed "bits" of detail / improvments allowing more varients like the 37/5 and 37/7s.... We should be grateful that all of the manufacturers give us models to the standard they do! While it would be boring if there was nothing to fix for modellers, at the same time we should take a pause and remember how bad some of the 70s stuff was - Lima 33 for example!

  5. I think regarding the twin pack scenario, people will have to make their choice buy or dont buy. If lots dont buy and the stock doesnt move I would expect this type of L.E. twin pack not to be repeated. If however they all sell out then clearly the market has spoken.

Perhaps we will see different L.E. choices in future.. or as I suspect, these will sell out and thus the twin pack will continue - as with every product the quality fo the end product will determine its success. B)

Personally I would like someone to do a twin pack of ltd edition "fixed" Heljan 86's with speakers in both but only a decoder+ motor in 1 for running my intermodal traffic... however this strays towards froth... :D

  6. Sounds like a great opportunity - think I would be more than pleased to get the blue pair - to bolster my Blue/NSE era stock...

Think I will have to thin out my era options one day....

    80's west highland

    90's/ 00's WCML

and 80's S/E is probably overkill

  7. Ah, such is the problem when you allow the immature into a mature conversation.

Well thats a constructive way to move the debate on:rolleyes:

I think this thread is inherantly doomed as football is about passion which is (rightly or wrongly) barely half a pace from anger and hatred in the heat of the moment. Not sure a model rail forum is the place for it to be discussed tbh. With an upcoming Tyne and Wear derby this weekend perhaps 50000 people inside a stadium will be immature and wrong at the same time.

  8. I am also following the thread... as above dont normally post to that effect but rest assured your work is admired and dare I say "envy" creeps in too.. Wish I had the time / skills to emulate your scenics.

  9. He IS still a member. I just checked. His items may be gone, but he is still registered.

Also John I am very curious to know what evidence you have that justifies your first post and the second half of your second post. Your statements could be very defamatory about a specific and identifiable person.

I'm curious as to what train of thought could make you think the seller is in any way genuine?
