  1. When placing an order please bear with us and allow the stated 21 days to pass before contacting us to follow it up. It's easy to forget that behind the website we are still a traditional 'cottage industry' not a big warehouse operation and we sometimes need to make items up specifically for orders.

Does say 21 days perhaps it is because you are across the pond.

    Regards,

    Nick

  2. Thanks Nick.

Now I have joined S4S progress will probably become even slower as I will eventually have a P4 project vying for my time as wellrolleyes.gif

Slow and steady on the P4 work sir, get to grips with what you want to do, plan it, buy the items and do it a bit at a time. Don't stop on the 00 though!

    Regards,

    Nick

  3. You can have your traverser in any colour so long as it is red! laugh.gif

Not bad sir, not bad at all! And don't worry about progression, I've been going on about building Horrabridge for nearly two years now!

    Regards,

    Nick

  4. Yet another cracking model of a Scots prototype. Seems Scotland brings out the best in some people's skills. Well done!

I agree completely with Ian, it is a lovely model.

    Nick

  5. Hi chaps,

After a long slog over the past couple of days to complete locos and rolling stock, I am now turning my attention towards a layout. For a couple of weeks I have been toying with the idea of Staverton Station in Devon for my first P4 layout. I certainly haven't turned my back on Horrabridge, far from it; old OS maps have been scanned and yet more photographs ordered to help with the build, but my ideas have started to grow. The 'paper' plan now looks as if it will be 20ft by 4ft, although Rod Cameron very kindly has agreed to help with a Templot plan which will help. But it is still a huge project and too big to be a realistic first project. To start with it would fill the down stairs of the house!

So what I am after is a bit of advice as to the original track plan for Staverton. I understand that it looked like the diagram below, but would be interested if anyone knows any different.

(Green represents trap point, although this might be a headshunt)

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Nick.

  6. Not in my humble one - resistors on LEDs are not a sliding scale like a lamp, they dim a bit and then go out - but each to their own of course.

Just wondered! When I taught a unit on circuits last term to a year 5/6 class we had a 6v bulb with 1/2v going through it and it was very dim! But like you said it's personal choice at the end of the day. (Would look good in a dim room though! wink.gif )

    Regards,

    Nick

  7. Antics in Plymouth is a very useful shop, but they just don't carry the stock that they used to. I remember as a child going in their (only about 15 years ago now) and 3/4 of the ground floor was purely railway related items, now there is about 1/3, the rest being model buses. It is a real shame and I do wonder if the new improved shop at the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh has played a part in it.

    Regards,

    Nick

  8. Perhaps you could bring the articles in to DRAG, Nick, and we could talk about detailing some Airfix/Dapol ones - I'm sure you would find that a much more gratifying exercise than removing your credit card from it's wallet at some model shop!... wink.gif wink.gif

    Will do!

    Regards,

    Nick

  9. I've had a quick look upstairs Rod and I think it is about 2003/4 I'm still looking as we speak!

Right found it! Model Rail numbers 53, 55, 57 and 59 a series about cattle wagons written by Steve Banks detailing and improving various models, lots of photographs.

    Regards,

    Nick

  10. Nick.Thats a photo worth modelling ,which issue was it in ?

I'll have a look up in the loft for it Rob, all my old magazines go up there, but I will look this afternoon. I was planning to model the train in the future as it was something different!

    Regards,

    Nick

  11. Scrolling through Paul Bartlett's selection, wasn't it nice to see that when no longer required for cattle transport, one was made available for the personal conveyance of the Nottingham civil engineer.wink.gif

But more seriously, I have heard the story that the BR cattle wagons (which were pretty much redundant at the time of construction due to majority of the trade decamping to the road) were used for moving fruit and veg to help cope with the high peak loads of this traffic. I have seen photos of LNE and LMS cattle vans branded fruit, was this done on BR cattle wagons? Any pictures? Groping wildly here for a chance to use a couple with my other grouping prototype kitbuilds in this traffic.

There is an old Model Rail which looked at detailing the Dapol cattle wagon, and there is a photograph around 1956/7 with a Hall running up from Cornwall with a full train of cattle wagons full of Broccoli! Not a single animal to be seen, so I think they were used for fruit and veg, if only during the 'peak' of the season.

    Regards,

    Nick

  12. For a short time I had wondered if Dapol had dropped this as an idea, but am really pleased that they haven't. I think they will be really successful for the company and a great re-entry into the 00 market. At the moment I'm after a plain Green, small yellow panel in green and perhaps a BR Blue with small panels and use them on Horrabridge, but also on a possible joint Boscarn Junction project with a fellow DRAGer!

    Regards,

    Nick

  13. I have previously studied the terraced shops at the far end of this layout, and think they are very good models. Is there any chance of some more close up photos? I know I have seen some photos from Mr. Nevard somewhere on the internet.

I'll have a look through my photo collection and see what I have got. smile.gif

That is really nice, surely a candidate for the MRJ.

Don't know how I have missed this one, has it been exhibited widely?

    Andy.

    Hi Andy,

Yeah I believe so, it has been to Wells, Scaleforum and Scalefour North. It is cracking, one of my favourite layouts.

    Regards,

    Nick

  14. There's at least one RMWeb member who is involved with St Merryn.

There we are chaps! I'm sure he would be happy to discuss the layout when he is free.

I don't think the layout has been featured in the mainstream press, but there have been many articles on it in Scalefour News - intros in #113 and #114, and a series of articles on particular features (buildings mostly) covering most of the issues from #130 to #149.

That is very interesting to know Rod, thanks for that I will look on the Society's resources page to get the relevant parts.

    Regards,

    Nick

  15. Very nice, great detail. May I ask why St Merryn? I used to live there,my parents still do.

    Kind regards Frame.

I think it was just the similar to Barry Norman's logic for Petherick, a station wasn't there, but it was perfectly feasible to have one. St. Merryn is a rather nice name though.

  16. Excellent photos, Nick, of an equally top-drawer model. Pity the builders can't be persuaded to be RMWebbers in their own right? We can never have too many Southern layouts set in the far South-West!

It is a shame actually Ian because there is a huge amount that we as modellers could learn. The beauty of St. Merryn is its simplicity, but the more you look the more there is to see. It is just fantastic. I'll have a chat with Brian Pearce next time at DRAG and see if some more information can be written up.

    Regards,

    Nick
