We haven't. The O gauge Class 120 DMU project was shelved several years ago. It's before my time with the company but original source material was in very short supply and without any extant vehicles to measure and photograph (apart from one unrestored intermediate trailer) it was decided to focus on other projects, such as the BRCW Class 104 in OO.

Should have given Charlie a bell.....

  2. Mark might be right, all I know is that to do a 116 from a Lima 117 you have to make the window smaller.  It is probable that this is an error on the Lima 117, rather than 117s having a different window size.

I don’t know how close the Class 116 is in body profile to a Class 117 apart from no roof mounted headcode box.  It would be nice to see Bachmann get extra mileage from this model.

The 116 has a different arrangement of windows in the section of the body immediately behind the driver's cab.  The first 'big' window on a 116 is smaller than the one on a 117.

There was another one on Gloucester Road, the owner of which boasted " I am going to give every one a run for their money and some competition" --------- he did not last long.

Nobby`s Hobbies was the slot car specialist Model Highways was Model Railways and Kits. There was also one on North Street Bedminster who was mainly kits, the name of which escapes me

The short lived one on Gloster Rd was an outpost of Howes of Oxford, some kind of franchise IIRC.  As you say. didn't last long.  Nowadays only Antics remain with a very limited range of stock  We do however have an excellent shop just a short bus ride away in Portishead. (bought quite a bit there)

i remember going around one doorway and finding an imposing space ship, all White, with bits of Black, looked like the fighter bay from the Millenium falcon. right up against the door...... well 87201 actually, with some chalk on it saying 90001.

Other way round.  It was 90001 with 87201 chalked on it.  At the time they were still designated 87/2 but this was changed to class 90 before the first one was released from works.

  6. The decrepit concrete steps at Lawrence Hill were replaced only a few years ago with steel ones.  I was surprised at the time that they didn't put in a long ramp to the island like the ones at Stapleton Rd.  (Northbound has flat access via Lidl car park for those of you who haven't been there lately.)

What on earth are they going to do at Keynsham?  The station was virtually rebuilt only a couple of years ago.

  7. The item that has been near the top in all recent 'wanted' polls is the class 120 DMU. I would certainly have a Scottish (Inverness) one (or 2) if produced.  It could also be a lead into other long frame DMUs, 119, 123, 124....

The 120s were very well travelled, the Southern region being about the only area that they never really penetrated, although they did regularly get to Pompey and Weymouth.

I thought that the limit down to Dover was 3 x 4-car units PLUS 2 x MLVs ?????

But they ran from Victoria, not Charing Cross.

  9. re the APT, if you can stand the awful lagginess of the Hornby site, a single power cars is listed there and the price implies that it is powered.  The price diference 5/7 suggests 2 power cars with the latter, but as others have pointed out it doesn't quite work out for building a complete set.  No doubt things will become clearer in the near future.

I've been predicting a standard 2-6-0 78xxx for som etime now, but I got the box colour completely wrong.

I have read on the Class 50 threads over time that the tooling could be better and the experts critiquing it said something about the cab ends but honestly don't have the exact details but as for the Class 56 those sunken roof fan vents are a dead giveaway and quite off putting.

Yes the Hornby Class 91 is basic but we have Cavalex bringing out a new tooled version incl. the accompanying MK4's thus don't see the point in Hornby doing the same and for me IMO seems to be unnecessary duplication which should be avoided in the model railway market but yes we all have the freedom to choose when the time comes and there will be a winner & a loser when both are released.

The front cab windows are horribly wrong, the characteristic sad eyed look and the rearwards rake are missing .

Thanks for posting. It's news to me. So does that leave any MK5 sets for TPE currently operational? Three sets in store at Longtown, two sets removed from service indefinitely. I'm sure their are a few more in the country but don't know when they last worked or if they have ever worked in passenger service as of yet. Very interesting.

All 13 mk5 TPE sets are now in the country, though most of them appear to be at various storage locations.
