  1. Thank you! I'm pleased I'm not the only one who thinks that! It does amaze me sometimes when photos are captioned for books and the reader is expected to take them at face value. Perhaps some do!
  2. On page 15 of Michael Welch's book "Steam in the Scottish Landscape" there is a photo I have never seen before, a beautiful photo of 60027 Merlin on Saturday 5th June 1965 with 1X18, the A3 commemorative tour after 60052 was ripped at Carlisle following a hotbox ... tour info here: http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/650605_1.html However .. the caption states it is north of Longtown with the River Esk in the background and I'm not so sure - in fact I'll go as far as saying that it isn't. If anyone has the book please could you take a look and see if, like me, you also think it is just north of Newcastleton, taken from what I would class as a new vantage point. It would also be interesting to ID the Sulzer Type 2 on the Up line just behind 1X18.
  3. I recall seeing either a photo or cine footage from that train and the crowd of photographers there was like looking at Scout Green or Beattock nowadays when there's a steam railtour out & about.
  4. Indeed, it is very similar ... such a shame I had to sell it but needs must & all that (covered previously on here) ... my one dream was to see it plying its trade in the same way, in the same livery as the photos, up at Whitrope .. alas.
  5. Found them eventually .... a couple of photos of D5310 at Torwoodlee.
  6. As promised, 60836 on 3rd September 1966 crosses Riccarton Culvert and heads north towards Riccarton Junction with the Granite City Railtour. Copyright holder unknown - if anyone knows whose it is or if it is yours please drop me a line.
  7. I didn't realise you'd put them on just today ... I saw them earlier and wondered if I'd previously missed them! Great stuff!
  8. Great to see you on here David! It seems an age ago I popped down to see you & completely fill the car with the layout, perhaps 5 years ago?? You'll probably see more of your photos linked as we seem to have been right through Flickr and most of the other photo sites.
  9. Had I been onshore I'd have joined you Pilgrim Brothers for year 43 of the hibernation ritual.
  10. Oooh .. jumping on the bandwagon and going to go O/T as well (a perfect excuse) ... and because I know some on here whose eyes may pop out at this ... it's not WR but it's fairly close as the crow flies: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24041160@N02/6628991217/in/photostream
  11. Aye, spotted that although I doubt it was heading up the NB line, rather a Caley run to the Clyde's own City.
  12. ... and so onto the final day of working ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/69363014@N08/6305987970/
  13. In the words of one Victor Meldrew, "I don't believe it" .... just how close is this to being in the Most Wanted thread? Discussed previously, here's the photographic evidence .....
  14. That's the one ... imagine the chasing car speeding along the 6399, the passenger shouting to the driver that he's alongside and needs to get his foot down if he wants to beat it to the viaduct. .... and .... back in the room.
  15. It's the loco with the year I was born on the cabsides, so I won't spoil it.
  16. Are these new to here? http://www.scottishbordercamera.com/photo_2245539.html http://www.scottishbordercamera.com/photo_2245539.html#photos_id=2245541 http://www.scottishbordercamera.com/photo_2245539.html#photos_id=2245530 ... and a few more: http://www.scottishbordercamera.com/section132697_147758.html
  17. It's not often you see THAT bridge! http://canmore.rcahm...details/698635/
  18. We've seen some of Peter W Robinson's photos on here before I think, possibly from his Fotopic days, so apologies for some repetition .... not sure exactly what we've seen so take your pick from this veritable feast: http://cumbrianrailways.zenfolio.com/p32854980 Who was asking about WDs on the Waverley Route? http://cumbrianrailways.zenfolio.com/p32854980/h1a0d672b#h1a0d672b
  19. A couple of locos at Hawick: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17606961_2sF27N#1518778365_GDw4VWR http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17607066_R5ngn3#1464010135_d5NBmbt ... and a couple at Carlisle: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17607066_R5ngn3#1435137492_XJHJpWc http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17607066_R5ngn3#1415708084_Q4dkc3D (before it became Bruce!) ... anyone modelling the Duns goods? http://tracksrevisited.smugmug.com/Other/60s-Steam-memories/14805943_ks6pcF#1106140103_wLkNk
  20. Plenty of coughing, wheezing & spluttering during those 20 minutes, from both loco & crew!
  21. 8½ years too early to be me, unfortunately.
  22. Is that Otis Redding sittin' on the dock of the bay? Can't quite make out the loco on this wee laptop screen.
  23. One that I don't think has yet appeared on here, indeed it's new to me as well. D262 on 10th December 1965. Description is incorrect though, it's actually heading on the down line towards Whitrope, through Ninestanerigg Cutting, Riccarton being around a mile & a half behind it. I'll drop John Chalcraft a line to let him know. http://www.railphotoprints.co.uk/index/detail/13511/D262-Y-WhitropeTunnel-101265-BR2262.jpg.html
  24. I really need to dig out the photos I've got of it on the Waverley Route .... must do some digging!!
  25. Oooh .. wow! You caught me off guard That's fantastic, takes me back a few years that does ... thanks ever so much for renumbering as D5310 and for posting the photo!
