  1. Thanks guys. Just got back from Hayle (well a couple of hours ago now!) - thoroughly enjoyed the the weekend and thanks to everyone at Hayle and those RMWeb member who came over for a chat. Thankfully not much to repair for next weekend. If in Exeter at the weekend, please come over and say hello.
  2. I'll start this one off then - Orchard Road
  3. Layout all packed and ready for its trek down to Hayle in Cornwall tomorrow!
  4. The engine looks great Dave. Even looks like that it is 'floating' over the road crossing! Are you going to bring along to Exeter, as I would like to see this one (will look a little of place on my layout and will not pass through the bridge!)
  5. Where The Streets Have No Name - U2
  6. Hi Carl, I've been following progress and find it very interesting. Looking forward to seeing the finished result and then I will then enjoy re-reading the whole thread as it good to see the end result, plus being able to see how you have achieved each stage. Also, good to see someone bringing techniques - like the painting - from other modelling, something which seems to be overlooked in the UK. Seems to be fairly common in USA.
  7. I like what you have achieved so far - the colours look good to my eyes. Keep up the good work.
  8. I have given my new Heljan 33 a light weathering in readiness for next weekend. Considering changing the steps to those by PH Designs and I know the shape at the bottom of the cab is slightly wrong, but don't really want to start modifying - I can live with it for the moment.
  9. A couple more from Orchard Road. The Heljan 33 has been given a light weathering.
  10. Don't forget to come over and say hello - I'm there both days! Should be a good show if the last few have been anything to go by!
  11. Hi Neil, Not good that you are not very mobile and then can't stay in one position for long! Doesn't work out too well for the modelling then! Hopefully you shall start to get back to normal shortly and be able to get some more modelling done. All the best.
  12. Hi Grimleygrid Thanks for your comments. I have been trying to get some more detail into the shed and will gradually add more as and when I can get bits made. I will probably not add much more onto the rest of the layout, but intend to add more detail to the inside of the shed. Most of the details so far have come from books that I have trawled through from around the period being modelled, but could probably could find more. Most of what I have is black and white, so sometimes difficult to make out the details as these seem to be in the gloom. Of course, these books being contemporary with the period modelled, the definition is often not as good as nowadays.
  13. That's an interesting prototype there! Should look good in model form though! Are you going to paint the lighter grey / blue first and then add the darker shades? Just wondered whether this would be easier.
  14. Love Over Gold - Dire Straits
  15. Hi Marc, Thanks for comments! I can't believe it either that I have now reached 12 pages and 270 odd replies! It's amazing what can be achieved with a small layout! I'm pleased with the way that the trees have turned out behind the shed and really help to finish everything off! The secret with the birthday present is to buy it myself, my wife not knowing one end of an engine from the other! Much easier to buy it myself! Now need to weather the 33 and will post some photos when done, but need to find suitable first, so need to look through my books etc. Cheers Richard
  16. Hi Chris, Thanks for the link. I know that the 06 are out of region for a Devon layout, but I do like them! Was a bit of an impulse buy from Michael and Judith Edge at York and to be honest destined for a new industrial layout, where the idea being that locos had been bought from BR when withdrawn. The only photos I can't find though are any showing the cab interior.
  17. As has been mentioned by others, the track looks terrific! The sweeping curves before the bridge are a very important feature of Barnstaple junction, where the lines diverge to Bideford / Torrington and Ilfracombe. What period are you modelling?
  18. I've not been doing very much on Orchard Road lately, but just need to finish off a few jobs ready for Hayle Exhibition in less than two weeks. However, I have been building a Judith Edge kit for a class 06 as mentioned in previous entry. I thought that a photo might be worthwhile. I still need to add some of the details to the engine casing and then clean up the solder. The interior of the cab needs finishing and then the roof adding. I also need to order the motor and gearbox, plus crankpins, which I forgot to buy when I bought the wheels! I won't be able to get finished in time for Hayle though.
  19. Dave, Ah! makes me feel better about my soldering brass - I usually end up with too much solder.
  20. He Knows You Know - Marillion
  21. What a great selection of 'battered' 16 tonners - I must finish mine off, now wheres that weathering powder .......
  22. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - The Beatles
  23. Not much to report, but getting ready for the next show in a couple of weeks in Hayle and then Exeter. I have been working a Judith Edge kit for a class 06 (I know out of region, but destined for a new industrial layout at some point), so not much work on Orchard Road, although still need to finish the interior of the shed and weather another loco - will post photos when done.
  24. Hi Leon, I've been catching up your progress and two things noticed that I wanted to mention - 1) Great shot of the brake van with greenery and weeds growing around - very effective 2) Partly removed track, with sleepers in place and one length of rail left - nice touch. Keep up the good work.
