As an S&T worker, we do quite a bit to points, usually every 3 months
First, we take the points from the signaller:
We use a track gauge to check points are in spec, check the FWC and FWP
The pads the points sit on are greased using the "slop bucket" depending on which type they are.
We use a grease gun for graesing the various nipples on the moving parts auch as backdrive cranks and bits of the point machine.
The machine is checked for copper deposits ('63 machines I'm talking about) the copper on the motor is cleaned with a lint free cloth.
We check the detector blades and various other parts to check they're within tolerance.
The motor is wound and we perform an FPL (facing point lock) test, firat with a 1.5mm gauge, which should allow detection and to lock. Then with a 3.5mm gauge which should fail. If not, adjustments are made so the 3.5mm does fail.
This is all I can remember atm, if I think of anything else I'll let you know. If you can get hold of an electronic copy of an SMS it's an A service and in there
