  1. In all there were 12 brakes that worked with the 44 Mk1 Pullmans. Original brake cars 77 - 80 and conversions from Kitchen Seconds 67-72, 81 & 82. In addition there were 6 1928 cars retained on the ECML services as spares - 4 Kitchen Firsts, 1 Parlour First & 1 Parlour Second. This pool of 62 cars made up the 5 sets of cars required - 2 for the Queen of Scots and 1 each for the Tees-Tyne Pullman, Yorkshire Pullman & the Master Cutler. No pre-1928 cars were used. If a 1928 brake was unavailable a Mk1 BG or other brake type was substituted + another Pullman car.

     Mark,

Do you know the Names/Numbers of the 4 Kitchen Firsts, 1 Parlour First & 1 Parlour Second?

  2. What is the second tender like? Is it the same as the one attached to the twin tender Flyong Scotsman some years ago, with (motor less) tender motored chassis, big couplings etc, or is it a more refined version?

    Many thanks,

    Andrew

Andrew, It is the same as the Flying Scotsman one, the couplings are horrible and that is very annoying. Hornby advertised this as having NEM couplings and as I run Kadee's I assumed that would be an easy swap. But no the only NEM coupling is on the first tender. So not very happy about that at all

  3. My Western "Western Glory" creaks on the 24" radius bends on my test layout. Does anyone have any ideas if this is curable or should I return it?  Its a shame as its such a fine model but it puts me of using it

  4. My RTC version arrived today  :locomotive: So I thought I would post a couple of piccies

A little work and she will be ready to join the rest of the RTC fleet

It arrived late because the postie did not leave a card yet again!! If I hadn't have checked it would sit at the Post Office for ever

  5. I appreciate that Hattons are discounting them but it seemed as though later orders were possibly being serviced at an even greater discount than orders placed earlier which would be worth challenging Hattons over on a point of principle.

I am not sure that this is correct, I may be wrong, I placed my order (Blue Gray) on 14/03/2013 and got it at £42.50 + P&P. But this may only apply to the Blue Gray version

  6. Am planning on putting figures in it, am thinking some of the seated Prieser figures may be ideal as those seats look small.

I used Prieser figures and as you say the seats are a little small and very close to the ends and the tables. I ended up doing major surgery to the poor little chap’s legs to get them in :butcher:

  7. Nice!

Is a white lamp up front correct when being propelled? Need to do a similar job on mine...

    Phil

Umm good question. I am sure that there are far more informed experts out there than me. I just used this pic on flickr Click Here as a guide

  8. just collected mine from the sorting office and am quite pleased with it, although I cannot understand why Bachmann have spoilt the ends by fitting the additional 'handrail knobs' to the water filler pipes (just under the end of the roof) especially as they have correctly fitted 'clips' on the roof.

    cheers

    Mike

I agree that the fittings are to large and a little out of place as shown in this picture of the prototype http://www.departmentals.com/photo/45028-1 but I am certainly not disappointed with mine, I think I can live with it. I may be tempted to paint them yellow to tone them down a little.

  9. Mine arrived yesterday while I was out, so I will have to wait until Monday morning to collect from the P.O. From the pix I've seen on here it looks a beaut.

I'd like to populate the interior, has anyone managed to get the body off yet? With the water pipes on each end it looks as if it might be a little tricky.

    Douglas

Not tried yet. But I think removing the roof could be an issue with those pipes, I am hoping that the chassis will come away without disturbing them. I have only glued the ETH connector "B" at the under chassis point so I can attempt to remove the base to add lighting and a function decoder. If anyone has any tips for removing the chassis I would be grateful to hear them.

  10. Re 'Tigger's' issue of the Kadee coupler height, it may be that similar to the Porthole coaches, the buffer height is too low, meaning the body is too low compared to other stock. As the coupler is linked to the body rather than the bogie, it will affect its height as well. 'Coachman' came up with a solution for the Porthole coaches, which is to insert a 2mm plasticard insert between the bogie and the body at the bogie rotation point. I've used it for all my Porthole coaches and it brings them to the same buffer height as other Bachmann stock and much closer to Hornby coach buffer height. It may be worth checking the buffer height. Details of the adaption are in the Bachmann Porthole Coach thread with photos.

Very interesting. I have compared the buffer height with Bachmann Mk1 and Mk2 coaches

    Mk1

The buffer height is certainly low

    Mk2

Looks about right if not a little high!

As for the detailing pieces and their correct location, thanks to kevpeo for his help, I have detailed one end and the locations are as follows

    and the end result

    post-7934-0-81038800-1407662462.jpg

  11. Between C & B there is a hole below the buffer beam for D to fit into. Kev.

Oh yes I have seen it now, it was hidden by the NEM pocket. It looks like that may have to be removed if I am going to fully detail one end

  12. I will play about an see if I can improve the height, thanks JZ

Now for the bag of detailing bits and where do they go  :paint:

    post-7934-0-55926000-1407605436_thumb.jpg

I know that F are the fixed couplings and I think that A,B.C, and E go where I have indicated

    post-7934-0-80523500-1407605449.jpg

If I am correct (probably not!) can anyone tell me where D goes please

  13. Mine arrived this morning and was pressed in to service before adding the detail pieces. Wow what a great model  :locomotive:

    A few piccies

If you are using Kadee couplings it looks like #18 is perfect and the NEM pocket is not far off the correct height

It is interesting to not that the bogies have electrical pickups fitted. This has got me thinking about some lighting possibilities  :scratchhead:

  14. Has anyone seen this

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-KIT-BUILT-BR-PULLMAN-BRAKE-COACH-BUTAURUS-17103-for-BITTERN-LOCO-mu-/360510272681?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item53f01634a9

This is such a bad model with a whole list of errors. I sent the vendor this:

    Hi

I am confused a little here. Firstly if this is Bitterns support coach then the number should be 17013 not 17103 as on the model. Secondly the name should be Botaurus not Butaurus. Also the coach type is wrong it looks like a Mk1 BCK not a Mk1 BFK. There are many other errors and therefore I suggest that this should be pointed out in your description as this could only mislead some buyers, especially at this astronomical price. Also it is not a "Pullman coach" as you state it is Mk1 brake painted in a Pullman style. Accurate info can be found here http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1585 and many other web sites. With your feedback rating I am surprised that you have let so many errors slip in to one item!

And guess what, no reply. What a shame with the new Hornby Bittern being released in May this would have been a great addition

  15. Well there's a novelty!...

    http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4ab21baeb2

"Bachmann 20 ton Toad Brake van. British Rail Bauxite.

This is the van where the railwayman stands and helps to steer coaches, I think..."

That's a Great Western tender! :O so who ever wins that is only buying the three coaches.

But at least they'll be well packed.

Great Western tender thats not the problem. :O There is no brake van so how are you going to steer the coaches :jester:
