  1. One thing I regret not doing (and would on the next one) is paint the underside white. Makes for a smart underneath, seals the surface, and makes it easier to find things (like broken wires)!

Goodness me Tim, I couldn't agree more! It also means you can 'label' tou's, connections, etc. with a marker pen.

  2. Hi Captain,

A long time ago (mid sixties), I spent many weekends carrying out a comprehensive survey of the area around St Mary's Crossing with a view to modelling it at some time in the future as I had a keen interest in both canals and railways at the time. Sadly it never came about and, after over twenty house moves, the plans have long since disappeared. Shame. I have to admit to being somewhat mischievous when asked why the area was being surveyed, I hope too many people didn't have too many sleepless nights!

  3. My grandfather was vicar at Micheldean for many years so we spent a quite a few hols exploring the forest as kids. That was in the days when relatively young children were kicked out the door after breakfast with a packed lunch and told not to come back till teatime! Boy did we get into some scrapes!

In the mid eighties I bought a mountain bike, long before they became popular (I had to order one), and spent a lot of time hurtling around the forestry tracks and old trackbeds in the Forest. A few years later when I was deciding on the location for my first P4 layout, the Forest of Dean was the obvious choice.

  4. If you are modelling Killybegs,i can reccomend "Killybegs Then and Now"by Donald Martin,Published by the Author in 1998,ISBN 1 901737 06 3 Theres some really usufull photos of the staion and environs.A good source of Donegal photos is Hugh Davies , His range covers the whole of the British Isles but ahs about 100-150 phots of the Donegal reasonable price too!He can be contacted at Chalcot House,32 Charterhouse Road,Godalming,Surrey GU7 2AQ,The Lens of Sutton Association have some usufull shots but some of the captions are a bit dodgey.Killybegs is a nice station to model,i had made a start on it but got sidetracked(sorry about the pun)with Strabane as the fourth in the trilogy of Donegal layouts. The Letterkenny layout at Warley was mine i'm afraid as was the Donegal layout at the first Warley show at the NEC as well as Castlefinn which also put in an appearance at Warley before going to the great exhibition in the sky.Donegal and Letterkenny having both ended up at Donegal station, rather fitting really!More info avaliable if needed,Andy.

I did a lot of research for the model of Killybegs station that I am building for the Railway Heritage Centre in Donegal, see pic attached. I can provide copies of the drawings that I prepared prior to starting the model.

Andy, I am working on your Letterkenny and Donegal Town layouts for Neil Tee at the moment. Spent the last two days getting to grips with the wiring on the latter!
