  1. Don’t worry Fran I’ve slept on it and I’m sold on it whatever solution you propose. Just one cheeky request - don’t forget the O gauge modellers hint hint!

    This is great news as all previous releases in both in 4mm an O gauge have fallen well short in the accuracy stakes.

     

    Ive moved on to O gauge some time back and I hope Accurascale nail this and then consider one in 7mm guise

  2. It looks impressive and works impressively I particularly like the raised rivet detailing  The smokebox door looks accurate as do the profile and siting of the smoke deflectors  boiler shape, firebox, and cab looking good

     

    However, the double chimney does not look fully correct and the sniffing valve behind the chimney remains a poor represention. Yes the Brass expansion link is the wrong way round but despite an improvement it still lacks real depth as the radius rod here fitted wrongly behind the expansion link should in effect fit through the expansion link

     

    How robust are plastic slidebars and I dont go along with Tender plastic coal load

     

    Despite my kit built A3s if the above issues are corrected I will be looking to add to the fleet with a Hatton A3

  3. Did you notice the bit where it says "release date unknown?"

     

    I thought as much we have had nothing LNER in 0 gauge RTR from any of the big players. Unlimited Pannier tank variants , Terrriers and Jintys  I know DJ did propose one some years back but it appears to have died a death.

     

    I wonder if a crowdfunded one would work especially a J94 tall bunker variant

  4. A superb build Brian and a exquisite result, really looks the part especially the weathering below the footplate

     

    I recall that when these were released I was tempted to purchase one but let it slip by though as someone has already eluded to I also heard similar mutterings about the chassis wheel spacing etc

  5. All comments intended to be constructive and helpful!

     

    The front of the tender should match the cab roof outline - it looks to be lower at present

     

    The valve gear is still set incorrectly, as for slide valve locks, instead of the correct piston valve.

     

    The valve gear (expansion link, anchor link and combination link) appear to be extremely weedy two-dimensional stampings, and rather let down the rest of the loco. The expansion link in particular should be a very three-dimensional object, even if it is modelled in 'mid gear'.

     

     

    I agree with all of the points raised by Giles but the Loco and tender body shape looks pretty good to my eye

  6. I'm not familiar with the prototype, but a few small details that the talented toolmakers might be able to tinker with:

     

    Remove rounded top edge to driving wheel splashers?

    Expansion Link looks a bit 2-dimensional.

    Heavy rims to moulded portion of front bogie wheels and perfunctory appearance of spokes within.

     

    Has there been any change to the drive mechanism since the initial CAD presentation?

    I would like to have seen a head on front view to judge the shape of the smoke defectors The ones on Flying Scotsman are not totally accurate representation of those fitted in BR days. The dimensions are probably correct just the shape/contour is off

  7. No A4's on my layout, but the stereo speaker sounds interesting.

    Im not 100% sold on it. The chime whistle for a start is not sufficiently authentic to my ears, sounds like it all alone stuck in a cupboard somewhere. Plus anyone who has stood next to an A4 preparing to depart who could ignore the harsh sound emanating from the Kylchap double chimney...... hardly noticeable here. Clanking of the rods when coasting not right either

     

    After the Q6 had high hopes for this but............

    Following on from 08 and Jinty would it be too much to hope for Dapol to do something equally good for the LNER/NER fans perhaps a J94 or better still a J72

  9. Well I now truly regret not sourcing a Class 40 kit when I had the chance  The arrival of many not so perfect RTR offerings over recent years has obviously had an adverse effect on the JLTRT business model

     

    Those that have built their JLTRT kits will be counting their blessing now including the many that remain stored in the " Yet to be Built" cupboard

    You will find this a very rewarding kit to build resulting in a very accurate 7mm A3. As you have already noted some etchings are quite thin including many small delicate etches that need to be soldered into place and which appear to have built in wings that take flight,,,,, so beware  

     

    The great thing about Finney kits is that if formed correctly all etched parts fit with a high degree of precision and the castings whether white metal or lost wax are superb

    .

    Having completed an A4, A3 and V2 with a Duchess on the go you could say I'm a Finney fan

     

    Incidentally my Finney A3 has a DJH highsided non corridor tender fitted with Spoked tender wheels while my DJH A3 with coal railed tender has disc wheels

     

    So visual evidence of your chosen prototype is essential

  11. Has anyone got any suggestions for a DCC sound chip (assume lok sound XL is favourite) and maybe more importantly a sound file and speaker combo. Not sure if Paul Chetter has done an A4. Really excited about both A3 and A4.

    I understand that someone calling himself Mr Soundguy is progressing an A4 

     

    Keep an eye on RMW DCC sound group threads for updates

     

    PS a couple of years back I fitted a Howes A4 sound chip to a Finney O Gauge A4 which had an ABC Motor and gearbox the smaller non XL sound chip worked fine due to the low draw of the current by the motor/gearbox combo. Going on the motors fitted to Heljan diesels only a XL chip would be suitable

  12. Well considering Dapol have done a grand job with their B set I think we are in for a very acccurate BR Mk1at and a very keen price

     

    Hopefully as Steve has mentioned above a BG may not be far behind. I never bought into the Heljan Mk1 range for obvious reasons so this is great news from Dapol

     

    A 37/4 is also coming from Heljan about the same time better start saving

  13. Thank you Peter those images are exactly what I was looking for and Im very grateful to you for providing them

     

    Reason for asking was that I was unsure if there were any substantial differences between the Magnate holder fitment to the front of the bogie on an A4 to that of a Duchess

     

    Many moons ago I managed to take some images of the front bogie AWS gear on 60007 and looking at your provided images it would appear to be a standard fitment irrespective of Region

     

    All of my big ex LNER locos have them fitted mostly all scratch built bits apart from the magnate that fortunately is produced by Andy Ragstone

     

    Im working my way through a Finney Duchess hence the image request

  14. Hi, they are one  above  the  other on CoB. I need to check my reference  books  when I get  back to the  UK, but  I am more  inclined  to go with CoB than DoS, which may  have  been altered in preservation.

    You don't happen to have an image that shows the AWS magnate fitting on the front of the bogie it may of course have been removed when COB was completed for the Bham museum

  15. Well to my eye the front end on profile looks much improved. Perhaps group member Giles can do a similar comparison to that which he produced for the previous Hatton A3 A4 topic The chimney now has a more accurate two step profile down to the firebox casing
