  1. Any update Anthony? I've been following this thread for around 3 years, always been in awe of your work!
  2. Just a quick update - Knightstown is still very much alive and kicking, however it's now set in the early 60's (mainly so steam and diesel can be run together). Managed to shuffle things around in the spare room - it's now 8 foot x 10 foot x 6 foot in a U shape. A reverse loop with a fiddle yard in the middle is contained on the 6 foot (I'll get some pictures up of that part tomorrow
  3. First attempt at weathering a loco. Really happy with how it came out
  4. Winter is now here, which brings about a severe reduction in BMX riding... The railway has progressed quite a lot including the removal of the 3 way point (it was proving more hassle than it was worth). I'll post a picture when I can figure out how to do it on the mobile view! Haha
  5. Not much to update as still need to purchase some Peco motors (typical January post Xmas finance destruction means I can't get them till pay day), however I have constructed a back scene.
  6. Close but no cigar... Still gets over the first frog then stalls on the 2nd. Think I'll have a stab with the Peco motors and see if I get any joy with them. There's currently 2 points needing motors that don't need the switch so no biggy if that's the problem
  7. That's awesome thanks NWJ! I'll double check it and post an update tonight. They're operated according to Brian Lamberts excellent instructions, the only issue being I had to flip the track feeds round for whatever reason, The droppers are in a seperate terminal block however it's possible they've been knocked with all the flaffing about...
  8. Todays dumb question... Peco electrofrog 3 way pont (2 wire version). It WAS working fine till a twitch while adjusting the terminal block ripped the wires (and solder points) off a seep motor - meaning in had to be replaced (the 1st motor at the toe end). Now, the left road works fine, the right road works fine, the centre track shorts dead. If a loco hits the first frog, it completley stalls. If it comes at it from the heel end, it goes over the IRJs then sparks and shorts out the entire line. The centre road is connected to the track via 2 IRJs. Going over and over the wiring diagrams shows everything LOOKS fine. The motor concerned is moving from switch to switch without issue. Anyone got any suggestions?
  9. And it's fixed... One of the outer rails was shorting (?!). Not the frogs that you think would cause problems... Mildly confused but hey ho it's working so that's all that matters. Now to reballast it
  10. Thanks Paul, will get some ordered however the charcoal and Matt varnish worked a treat for now. Right, I'm now stumped... The point that sets the route to the goods shed has started shorting. Power goes in at the toe, when it's set straight ahead it works fine. When it's set to divert left, it shorts the entire line. This happens when I disconnect all other power leads meaning it's the only one set of leads that's powered... The left route also has two insulated fishplates as it's linked to opposing frogs so it's not shorting off another piece of track.... WTF?! I've cleaned all the blades and blasted the entire thing with switch cleaner to get rid of any dust but nada. Anyone got any ideas before I take it up?
  11. Done a little work playing around with ballast in the goods shed area. Tried the modelling clay method to create a cinder effect and while I'm stoked on the overall finish, I'm damned if I can figure out how to stop the 'Matt' paint being so glossy?! Will probably try and tone it down dry brushing some charcoal powder once everything is dry... On the plus side, my Dapol Pannier turned up this morning!
  12. I originally started a blog however I rapildly lost interest... So, taken from the blog: After years of "I'll do it some point" I finally bit the bullet and started building a layout. Its going to be a slow project as I work full time and spend most of my free time riding freestyle bmx, however as winter sets in it's something to keep me occupied when I'm injured, have some free time or spare funds. Currently 8' x 1', there's a 3' foot extension attached for a fiddle yard forming an L shape. Point control is via stud and probe Loosely 1940's GWR in South Devon and based on a track plan my Woodwork teacher in school used, which I spent many lunchtimes running my old OO stock on (his little branch line had many visits from a streamlined Coronation!), stock will be the normal 45xx's, 14xx, Panniers and a Hall at some point (just because I like them!). The track work is now complete and working for the scenic boards however from the pics you can get the idea of how it looks - GOOD GOD Peco code 55 3 way points are a nightmare for newcomers who've never soldered before, all hail Google!! Control was DC, however now I'm swaying towards a very basic DCC system (probably Hornby select due to funds, no need to read/ write CVs and limitedfunds - I don't need anything fancier). It seems quite simple to adapt the wiring due to all points being electrofrog. Incase you're wondering where the name comes from, my Woodwork teacher was called Peter Knight, and as I ripped off his plan - Knightstown Thanks to The Hobby Goblin in Stoke for all the advice so far
