GWR steam continued to flourish for some years alongside green diesels. Many of us find that crossover or transition era 'convenient'. The only downside to a shift in interest may be related to your personal finances.
I know, I've just been pricing up a kit for a g2 and it's looking quite likely I'll buy one then start looking at former gw types.

I bought the " red Dragon and other old friends" book for £20. It's making my likeness for pre tops diesels fade quite considerably, in favour of gwr steam!

Don't know if you've managed to get a copy of the red Dragon book, I've bought one today and it's a very very good book.
I'm amazed how much Swansea has changed, mostly for the better but at the loss of some pretty impressive railway and industrial infrastructure

Going to keep my eyes on this thread. I've moved back to Swansea for the second time and I've always been fascinated by the LNWR and MR presence here.

I managed 10 kitmaster mk1s all unbuilt, with a load of extra spare glazing and a 08 shunter also unbuilt for £80.

I certainly didn't feel insulted by the initial greeting mentioned. I just thought it was way too informal.
You're right that language changes, but the tenets of grammar do not (or should not) change. In my last job as a professional model railway journalist, if I'd have adopted such 'flexibility' in my writing as saying something worked 'good' (which is just the same as your response of 'good' when someone asks as to your health), I'd have been pilloried. 'Good' in both contexts has nothing at all to do with offending anyone, it's just wrong. It's excuses for that sort of thing which make me sad.
In a similar vein, I've almost exploded this morning whilst listening to the radio when a presenter (a professional?) stated that 'Me and a friend had watched a complete DVD set (of tripe, I imagine) last night'. Where do they get such illiterates from?
I know we live in a world of communication now where almost anything goes. However, because of my innate conservatism (with a small 'c') I'm not entirely comfortable with change. Means of addressing folk have also changed, but I respect what was considered 'good manners' in the past. The manners which, in days gone, would ensure a child did not address adults by their Christian names (remember that?). Over 20 years ago I was walking through my garage to my workshop when one of my sons' friends (he'd be about 12) addressed me as Tony. He seemed to shrink in terror as I adopted my sternest pedagogue stance and demanded, in future, he address me as Mr. Wright! The incident had an hilarious aftermath, at least for me. A week or so afterwards I couldn't help overhearing the same youth mutter in my direction 'Victorian Dad'. For readers of VIZ (like me) you'll know of the character; non-readers will have to imagine what's meant. Once he knew I'd overheard he went absolutely grey with what looked like fear as I strode towards him, only to pump his hand and congratulate him on giving me the greatest compliment possible. He just stood there looking rather puzzled.
All the above said, this thread is really about making things.
Things like this chassis to go under a SE Finecast streamliner. The choice of the older Romford wheels is because it'll have to operate over Peco track - RP25 Markits do work, though they can drop into flangeways on occasions. The other reason is that these wheels will be red, and the non-blackened centres are easier to paint. The bogie wheels are the right sort, though.
At the moment, it's at the running stage. How should I describe it? 'Hi, yous out there, me's just done dead good. De fing runs good, I maked it good and and me's feeling dead well abour it.
I rest my case.

I thought the original generator class 47's had the ethical cable on the bufferbeam, and the later eth conversions had them just above the bufferbeam?

J2466 - if that were D1516 being one of the original generator batch she would have ETH and an oval Brush built works plate - cant see any ETH and she has a square Crewe built works plate
Are we looking at a loco from the D11xx batch perhaps?

in one of my books on the great central , there is a picture of a class 37 hauling a train across it . I cannot remember which book it is though.
There's the other GC bridge over the M1 just south of Junction 21 where the GC goes South west across the motorway before going alongside it to Lutterworth. I wonder how long it actually carried trains. I've never seen a picture of a train on it.

OK, there was some D&G on the death of Gerald Scarborough last year (of course, he was a well-respected man), but it's fallen my way to find new homes for his collection on behalf of his widow and family.

Other than the last loco, none of the above is ever likely to be available RTR. They represent part of a lifetime's modelling, and there are many more locos. I'll post a full list later, though four (not illustrated) have already sold. Yes, they're not top-draw, but they all work, well. Yesterday, I cleaned, oiled and serviced every one.
Aren't they interesting? You can take all your fancy current RTR stuff and enjoy it as you wish. But, this is motive power built by an individual. There is some RTR stuff, but he preferred to make things for himself. That's the key as far as I'm concerned. A true modeller in my view.

I've always liked the g2s don't know why though, must be the rugged, simplistic construction of them.

I've bought this book and it's fantastic I've been interested in the SVR since a kid, and it's proving very inspiring to me, with the added benefit of it providing a kind of guessing game regarding where any infrastructure might still be.
