  1. Thanks for doing the pics Paul. On what I've seen this is looking like the great leap sideways. Will await the green version now. Stu
  2. Probably to with making the green version accurate but agreed it's a bit of a dodge. I've invested enough time and effort in my 5 assorted versions to make what I've seen so far of the new one a marginal choice. However a possible silver lining for some. The Mk 1 version now down to £60. http://www.ehattons.com/33098/Heljan_3382_Class_33_0_D6579_in_BR_Blue_with_full_yellow_ends/StockDetail.aspx Stu
  3. Pics of "new" 33 here http://www.ehattons.com/68805/Heljan_3433_Class_33_0_diesel_33002_Sea_King_in_Engineers_yellow_grey/StockDetail.aspx Stu
  4. Thanks for that, I was beginning to wonder as I was sure it wasn't there when I first looked. And thanks for clarifying which green ones had the revised exhaust. Stu
  5. My mistake, teach me to read things properly. As Kernow themselves admit they're not sure it's the right livery perhaps they might have been better served waiting for the real thing. Stu
  6. The Kernow shots of the green versions show them with the modded exhaust. That is, I think, OK for D6577 but not for D6507. Personally I'm beginning to wonder why they bothered with the whole exercise. Stu
  7. Agree something looks a bit odd about the font though quite what. As for the detail either side of the data panel it looks as if they have printed on the two small panels that were added beneath the grill when the exhaust arrangement was changed. The original 33 models had these moulded on. Stu
  8. You a grumpy old man ? Never Martyn ! Your point though is well made. Having kept up with all this there is then perhaps a glimmer of a silver lining in all these storm clouds. My personal view, tongue firmly in cheek, is third rail from Worting Jn to Penzance :-) Stu
  9. In the quiet Downlands of Southern England some sinister stirs.......! Ages ago someone wrote an article about engine names and pondered appropriate names for the Q1's. He came up with the likes of Frankenstein and Creature from the Black Lagoon. He wasn't far wrong as this Hornby model turned out to be a nightmare. When the impending festivities are over and if it doesn't disgrace itself publicly I might well put digits to keyboard. Stu Stu
  10. Look forward to seeing you at Stafford then. I'll set up on Sat. Are we all in the "little boys" room then ? Stu
  11. Hi, Just a bump for Drewry Lane which will be at Stafford next weekend and Biggleswade the Sat after. If you're at either show come and say hello and perhaps have a go at worrying some wagons while I have a quick look round. Cheers Stu
  12. Crompton window surrounds were "light grey", BS2660-5-058, Hymek's were white. HTH Stu
  13. I think the time has come.......... This looks good. Stu
  14. Glad to help and thanks for the comments. Think this place might be worth a look for mounting card http://www.chromosart.co.uk/ Not you as well! Had enough trouble with Steve and Tim on Sun trying to spend my money. They were very keen for me to get one of those static grass applicators. At £17 odd perhaps I should have but will try and find someone who has one first. See you at Canterbury in Jan hopefully. Stu
  15. Glad you approve of Shelfe St Colin, maybe one day I can bring it to Tonbridge. Steve helped out both days and did an absolutely sterling job giving plenty of time to talk away to Colin amongst others. Lets face it though I've had plenty of tuition watching the likes of Paul W, George W and Dave T in action. I did wonder how much time George spent actually operating his Layout at Warley? Also thanks to Tim - who spent Sat in Warley then came on Sun afternoon and showed us how Javelin drivers do things. Had a crazy 10 minutes and bought a Hornby Q1 Stu
  16. Hi Rob, Please feel free to borrow what you want. Every idea on Drewry was probably nicked from elsewhere anyhow. Glad you enjoyed seeing DL and hope you enjoyed the show. We had a good day and it's a show I'd be happy to do again. Still the odd stock coupling problem but the Class 14 now seems to be behaving itself and the sound Class 22 got a bit of attention. Cheers Stu
  17. How the hell have I missed this! Plenty of others have said what I'm thinking but I'll say it anyhow - superb. What the story behind the 94XX - kit, Lima, ??? Cheers Stu
  18. Hi, D6580 had no buckeye or buffing plate and might have had the original exhaust setup so was basically a Crompton with jumpers So the Heljan model is not strictly correct. Was very elusive photo wise. This is one of the few http://class33.zxq.net/CromptonLivery.htm HTH Stu
  19. See http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/OctEng2013.aspx#127203 The lines will be closed from late evening between Dorchester and Weymouth on Monday to Thursday for track renewals. The normal train service will run until the 1805 London Waterloo-Weymouth in one direction and the 2110 Weymouth-London Waterloo in the other. From then, trains will be replaced by buses between Dorchester South and Weymouth. Some trains will leave Dorchester South later than norrmal to connect with bus services Possibly using the Quay spur for stabling Stu
  20. Hi Steve, Firstly thank you for the kind words and putting those pics on the show thread. As for the chips they are both Hornby factory. However they are different. One has a Loksound v3.5 (I think) with the speaker mounted facing inward, the other is a v4 chip with the speaker facing forward and a number of holes drilled in the body behind the rad grill. The difference is quite noticeable if you spend a bit of time with them. The v4 version also has some shallow recesses inside the roof to accommodate the bigger chip. Cheers Stu
  21. Hi Guys, Come along and have a play :-) Thanks Andy. Drewry will be at Derby next year so hopefully will see you there. Been catching up on your thread. The RES 47 is really good.. Chris, Shelfe is 5ft x 9inch, the longest I can get in the car with the back seat down. It's got a short bolt on extension to take it to 6ft. Neither Drewry or Shelfe use trestles. Much prefer a table which are usually 6ft long, May not be the ideal viewing height but being able to operate sitting down is a lot more comfortable. Had a read of your Nth Haston thread, interesting with the sunken KD magnets. Stu
  22. Hi, Just a quick bump for Shelfe St and Drewry Lane Shelfe St will be at Shenfield on Sept 21st http://offtherails.x10.mx/memrc/exhib.html#top and the slightly revamped Drewry at Beckenham Oct 26th http://www.bwwmrc.co.uk/exhibitions/StJohn13Oct/index.shtml If your at either please come and say hello. Stu
  23. Araldite, hopefully that'll be sufficient......! After a bit of a concerted effort Shelfe is now more or less fit to be seen in polite company. A few pics A bit still to do in terms of the small details but the basics are done. The stock has been largely put together for this layout with a mix of vac and AB stock. The idea was to use 08's as the main motive power with a couple of other loco's for a bit of variety though while the 47 fits not sure it'll be that practical. We'll see. Regarding Drewry if anyone fancies a go it'll be here http://www.bwwmrc.co.uk/exhibitions/StJohn13Oct/index.shtml Cheers Stu
  24. Hi, A brief update. Have the track ballasted and weathered and 75% of the groundwork done. A couple of pics to give an idea. Shows for it so far are Shenfield in Sept, Broadstairs in Nov and Canterbury Jan 2015. Cheers Stu
  25. Hi, Thought I’d add the new layout to the existing topic rather than start a new one as this new effort isn’t a replacement for Drewry but rather a second cousin.. I’m probably suffering from Bedlam George Syndrome – an irresistible urge to build something new. There was some logic behind this though. A show manager had been urging me to do something new and Drewry had been drifting somewhat from it’s original idea of being either an early 60’s or mid 50’s layout depending on what was running. So here’s Shelfe Street - and I take full responsibility for the dubious name this time – but then it is 9” wide but a tad longer than Drewry not that you’d notice. It has a limited runround and ludicrously short sidings. One thing I learned from Drewry was irrespective of what the viewers thoughts the vast majority of operators, voluntary or press ganged, enjoyed the shunting puzzle aspect and the ever present threat of painting themselves into a siding. In format it’s boringly conventional in format and there’s only room for minimal scenery which but that’s fine by me. Whilst Drewry had a sort of plausible back story Shelfe has none, it’s simply a late 70’s/early 80’s Rail Blue shunt plank. Stock is being sorted out but the 08 I’ve done will give an idea of what’ll be run - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/68907-tops-rail-blue-class-08/ Track is Peco Code 75 which has been glued rather than pinned and uses the same system of point switching the Electrofrogs as Drewry as this has proved reliable and easy to use. Still a deal to do but while it has a debut date it’s reasonably comfortable timewise. A few pics to give an idea of trackplan and progress to date. The scenery, what little there is, is formed from high density foam which is apparently used to insulate van and lorry bodies and which cuts beautifully and can be sanded fairly easily. And yes that is where the VW Combi is going….. Stu
