Hi all, i thought i would reveal my layout on here.

This is my first ever proper layout which has been in the making for the last 5 or 6 years!

This was done as something to test ideas and develop techniques on which they have been very successful and others i have learnt from!

Its not based on anywhere but ST Reatham does exist but certainly looks nothing like the scene depicted by the layout!

Already having ideas for another layout before finishing this one but something that i can run both 00 and 009 on as all my 00 gauge locos and rolling stock is currently stuck in boxes

Anyway, hope you enjoy and will welcome any comments or questions, good or bad!

After a long absence of model making, a quick project was needed to get me motivated after a very long few months.

Sitting around was a half built gem Baldwin 4-6-0T which was used as a development model for my RT models replacement, fully working walchaerts valve gear.

The loco was never meant to be any particular loco until I visited snailbeach as been working nearby recentl so the Idea was set.

The model has been built with superglue mostly.

The valve gear rivets have been squashed carefully with a jewellers vice as I couldn't tap them with a hammer late at night!

    Hello Everyone,

heres one model that i have slowly been building over the last few months.

Im not going to deny it has been built from one of my own kits.

The prototype for the kit in the first place was choosen based on its long career and wide spread useage, nothing to do with personal interests at the time.

During research i found one of these, "Morous" ran just down the road from me on the Shropshire and montgomeryshire railway which actually got me interested in researching the railway and even more so that i've actually served these villages on the route myself through work and one of my colleagues ancesters so to speak worked on the railway as he saw me drawing the instructions at work along with the books around me!

Anyway, so i've decided to go out of usual modelling period and areas and model a Colonel Stephens light railway as these would make a change for me and to provide me a challenge or as you will read, a headache in some areas!

The model of Morous was built as close as possible to when it ran on the railway.

The livery has caused major headaches, Midland Railway red certainly seemed to be the correct colour.

However, its the smaller details that are the problems, should the splashers be red or black?

The bufferbeams, normally they would be like a signal red but according to a painting/print that ive seen its the same red as the loco?

Heres some photos before lining in yellow/black/yellow and hopefully soon, some S&M logos to go in the centre of the tank.

    Hi all,

i thought i would add my small account of building my Chattenden and Upnor Railway Baguley Drewry built from the RT Models kit in 4mm scale, 009 gauge.

I decided that i would build one for myself to go on my layout.
Deciding which version was to prove hard.
After looking at photos of new builds and in service of them abroad i decided that i would build it as near to original condition as possible to the Chattenden and Upnor Railway.

There was no diviations from the instructions.

The cab was soldered up and the rest was assembled with superglue.

The coupling rod holes i found needed opening up slightly to 1.5mm as it was a little tight compared to the first chasssis i used.
The Jackshaft drive was added to the Graham Farish Outside framed 08 chassis as well.

The model was cleaned with cream clener then left to dry. the whole model was brush painted. I start with a undercoat of matt black, the body was then painted with Humbrol Brunswick green with some areas including the chassis sides painted matt black over the course of several days. Bufferbeams was railmatch bufferbeam red. Once all this had dried, i varnished the model with Railmatch saturn Varnish.

After several days, I masked and painted the top of the exhuast with Humbrol Metalcote Aluminium as well as the light lenses.

Weathering was done with firstly a wash of Matt Black, then a wash of Humbrol leather to the bufferbeams and chassis with some dry brushing which was carried out to the top of the exhuast.

Glazing was done by carefully flooding the outside with varnish, inside the cab. This is the second time i had to fix glazing as i found the Evergreen glazing doesn't seem to like the varnish or thinners and made it go white when i did the wash so the originals had to be removed.

Lastly, with a sharp scalpel, the paint was scraped off the window frames to reveal them.

After a few hours running in, the model runs really smoothly and am very pleased with it.

    Hi all,

this is my first ever blog.

I've decided to finish off some projects that need some small work doing as to be honest i rarely do anything of my own these days.

Well, heres some pictures of stuff that are quick and easy jobs.

My GER D16/3 was built from a old Mallard models kit i bought about 5 years ago along with a LNER J50 at the same time built from a DJH kit which requires further detailing and the gearbox and motor installed and of course painted to work cross London workings.
