When announced one could place a pre- order on the Footplate site. The details are still there but the ability to add a pre-order seems to have gone. Pre orders are now possible via the Flangeway site. Having placed a pre-order via Footplate if I now pre order another via Flangeway does it all end up on one list or will it be separate parcels (and postage)? Anyone in the know?
Having pre-ordered you won't be asked to make a payment until the ploughs are released, at that time you will get a payment link where you will be able to combine the separate orders into one delivery. Hope that helps

Ooops, !!!!!!
When HS2 was announced years ago, VERY detailed plans were published and immediately accessible on line up to and including the proposed flying junction at Golborne (Bamfurlong actually).
I can't find ANYTHING with any sort of route detail regarding the new East West proposals.
It, to me, is all wishy washy pie in the sky. Such a high speed line would be very useful to many up here north of Burgess Hill, but like so many of Boris's waffles there is no actual substance (plans) for the line east west through Warrington or the mentioned alternatives for the Golborne Spur.
I think we'll get the Route to Crewe & perhaps Manchester and that will be it. The North will be short changed AGAIN.
Brit15
I wonder if it will even get past Birmingham.

Hi David,
A quick correction to the caption on J7010 at Shackerstone. The loco on the left is WG Bagnall 'Florence No2' and in the centre is WG Bagnall 'Lamport No3'

Let's face it, keeping the bloody paperwork straight is the easiest bit of managing competence !
Really? Have you any idea of the amount of paperwork involved? It’s not just loco crews, there are records required for all sorts of rolls such as safety critical maintenance, machine tool operators, Pway inspections. As others have said it is becoming a full time job for even the smallest of organisations. I don’t disagree that it’s a dangerous hobby and needs to be taken seriously but I suspect there will be many more improvement notices issued to heritage lines with regards to the maintenance of competence and associated paperwork.

"The traction inspector had worked on NYMR since 1997 and had been a volunteer for 23 years prior to that. He had maintained and driven all the diesel locomotives that NYMR operated."
It does sound like just an administrative oversight, there seems no doubt about the traction inspectors competence and experience, there was just not the paperwork to back it up. Still not exactly ideal nevertheless.
Unfortunately the paperwork involved with competence records is becoming more and more involved and the ORR inspectors more and more rigorous about it - perhaps to the extent it may be the nail in the coffin for some smaller heritage lines that have neither the time nor the manpower to keep it up to date. Hopefully it isn't and a degree of proportionality will be applied, although that seems unlikely in the current climate.

Also this one of the first movements with a potted history of the locomotive, produced and narrated by our Museum Manager who was both disappointed to lose one of his exhibits and excited to see it working.

I'm not sure if the radiator would have been in that position with the McLaren-Benz engine in, and also the engine controls may have been different.
The two levers on the left of the radiator are the forward reverse selector and the gear shift between low and high gears, and just below is the foot treadle for the clutch. The far left lever on the ratchet is the transmission brake.
She also moved under her own power again on Sunday and has now been brought out of the museum for work to return her to traffic which may include some cosmetic work to return the loco to an 'as built' look with the exhaust silencer on the bonnet and the bell.

Looking more closely at the photo's Sir Douglas sent me, there is a huge amount of slack in the driving chains. Can this be taken out by adjustment, or will you have to replace them?
should be possible to take it out by adjusting the turnbuckle links to the axle boxes....

Are the carriages on their original chassis or scrapped PMVs?
None of them are on original chassis, 127 is on a Tube wagon chassis, 61 is on an ex-Midland Rly 4 wheel passenger van chassis and 23 is on an ex-Midland brakevan chassis - all modified to suit.

Nice to see the Kerr-Stuart diesel shunter is undercover. Easily overlooked, but one of the first purpose designed diesel shunters...
The carriages are wonderful, a real labour of love to get them so nice, I love the detail of having all the screw heads aligned...

The Kerr Stuart diesel has had some attention recently including a full inspection and the engine started with a view to returning it to traffic for a visit to the Middleton Railway in 2022. There is also a plan to fit it with vacuum to enable it to haul passenger trains... watch out the the Kerr Stuart diesel on the Knotties in the future

A timely update as there has been some work carried out on the protoype as well. In the last couple of weeks the engine has been checked over, a set of batteries temporarily fitted and the engine started at the first attempt. This was done as first steps to bringing the loco back into traffic as there has been a request for it to attend an event at the Middleton Railway, Leeds, in 2022. To this end the fitting of vacuum brake gear is being investigated to see how sympathetically it can be added to the loco.
