Yes I have one or two weird and wonderful ways. But this has proved robust over the years - I put exhibition reliability high up my agenda. Just search for tag strips on EBay. -

The tag strips have arrived today. The first stage, as I use these as a common bus, is to solder rails down the middle. Nice steady evening job. -

Geoff Cook has explained the benefits to both of us, so the equipment and technique can’t be ignored! -

Not too much to report today - it’s mainly been a room tidy up day, a bit of research and some correspondence - something I’ll elaborate on once it’s happened in relation to traction. I'm generally waiting materials at present; tag strips, 22swg tinned copper wire and a gas torch and silver solder. I also need to order yet more rail. In the meantime I’ve been looking a photographs of the building that will form the backdrop. Here’s yet another picture I don’t think I’ve seen before. https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/75/275/ -

I don’t think I’ve seen this one either - very useful revisiting old searches now and again. A 26 with 27 style window rubbers. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dubdee/5345764176/in/photolist-99orrS-khSjCY-8KbLFi-iL1hKC-qnMssx-iKYRED-8KwpfJ-hjXGxd-QfYQwX-dB9vPp-8C8W1t-iKZp28-HkVwNA-SctyjA-yQNboL-2b25pT7-bSbKUp-p63enC-2fpntTw-pKsG88-2ivvQzr-oDMnau-2ixsTZ6-L5c5bo-2jcD79P-68343u-2jcNkh4-CbQQWw-2foingB-2jeRVoc-2gKqNGP-6x3dN9-expaeF-2dZpqRa-6x3dk7-2b25uPu-ik3vpn-rQKZn-rkco8j-pM8mQ7-2c84Cin-q4uRtD-37BMzt-nJa8K6-TwvmWf-2jidCqs-2ixbT9e-a7Sc6Y-6fYjqd-GEp99v -

I work on the basis of one wire to every separate piece of rail. -

Pictures of the side of the wash road building are quite hard to come by, so I was pleased to find this. https://www.flickr.com/photos/peter_todd/50667754297/in/photolist-2kcku7D-2hyY7kr-2k3XjJg-2i6Xy61-YCXSFs-2ak96hG-2aBymyA-2hYBAcY-2k5LbSp-Qj2eEj-2kohKrB-2jagqYg-2ekwAYs-pDrvUK-2iXC6uw-2iLaTBb-2jC5X39-2iM65ha-RCJ9TC-2jahGmE-SWEvME-uRnAoJ-2i6VNwN-QEzonT-RfpoF9-2etAK6A-sfwGuP-2bv7bHY-2ixjskE-2iKSgd5-WaxDRy-Dq4Hbr-TkCvek-26z9sLc-2i9Xr7Y-Qjf33A-pXomRN-2izT4z3-T6BLJg-9aD6cA-M8h9iM-2fWybkM-22KgHBu-oqPsFT-yRGdqr-28Yu1ry-2hzThKC-2i23poS-THWPEA-GR8V1v -

A bit tidier now. Tag strips will go in the middle where the wires have collected, I’ve had to order two, so will have to wait. -

That’s all the track feeds in apart from the 4 switchblades yet to be fitted. The two yellow wires are the feeds to the crossings. -

I agree you’d have remove the ballast - it just feels that bit easier if ever have to change the wire. Hopefully you don’t... -

Yeah I like that idea - so it’s removable if ever there’s an issue. Sold. -
The skill you’re showing on here, I’d suggest you could do it. Give it a go. It’s only your mind saying you can’t do it when actually you can...

Right then, wiring. I’ve used a quite thick wire here to minimise volt drop and maximise power available to the track. The wire is too thick to solder to the rail so a reduction is required. This is achieved using a smaller single core wire soldered into the thicker wire. Here I’ve soldered the thinner single core wire into the larger multi strand wire. Now with heat shrink around the joint. The wire is then pulled up through the baseboard and a 90 degree angle put in the end of it. And then soldered to the underside of the rail. Always from the non viewing side. -
If that centre tube was insulating with and interence fit?

What brand/ size of ballast have you used in the yard? - the blue/ grey. Thanks.
