That's what I mean - the Family Guy graffiti surely must be based on a prototype photo, or the guy has a properly warped mind, but it was never that loco (as far as I know), if you're going to do that why not do it to whichever loco actually ended up in that condition.
I can't imagine the guy said to someone "can you make this loco look like it's really neglected, y'know, the whole lot; Lois Griffin with her norks out and a sinister looking Quagmire on the cab side..."!
**cough**

Does anybody have a link to a website, I'm after an 04 detailing kit?
Steve.
They dont really have a website the nearest they have is the previous proprietors blog http://branchlines.blogspot.com/ the details on the page are still valid and they do answer their emails

None of my Lima 33's have couplings like that, blimey they do look long. Is it HO or 00?
definitely the smaller HO 33 variety with the euro style couplings which someone has stuck Dapol couplings on top of

Model Railway Constructor produced a drawing in OO &O with an article in their last year of publication. The same drawing was reprinted in Model Rail some years later. Sorry, dont know the publication issues/dates

I've posted this here instead of in the 'free to a good home' section as there is an exchange involved.
I've recently taken delivery of a Hornby Class 31 donor chassis with mazak rot to rebuild into a new loco, BUT contrary to the eBay listing, it turns out it has P4 wheelsets instead of 00 ones. I need 00 locos.
So, does anyone out there have a Hornby twin-bogie drive (i.e. not the (ex-Lima) RailRoad version) Brush Type 2 or BR Class 31 in the queue to convert to P4 and wishes to swap wheels, or even just swap the bogies?
I do, can supply wheels or complete bogies with standard wheels if you so desire

This was a dirty trick sir! My brain went "class30?" and after a quick google and a trip to Wikipedia I not only know that the first 20 had MIrrlees engines but that they were built in '57 so one could run on Summat Colliery. I am now looking to see how to get a 12 cylinder supercharged sound file!
I don't even like class 31's
Brush built the Rhodesian Railways DE4 Class with the same engine (ish) I think one might have been preserved. Think they were all out of service by mid 90s but there maybe youtube videos with sound available... maybe

Is it better to buy the flakes and is it easy to mix?
Steve.
Shellac has a shelf life once its mixed, A homebrew mix lasts about a year - year and a half and then will refuse to set hard, you get a tackiness to the finish. Always better to mix up small batches from flake and alcohol. Its easy. Another problem with buying pre-mix off the shelf is that you dont know how long its been there
-
Can you use isopropyl alcohol rather than meths to dissolve shellac flakes?
yes, it works alright with very little difference. The alcohol flashes off at about the same rate as meths and importantly for French polishing ipa can be bought without the purple dye - not a problem with natural flakes but irritating when using blond granules for a clear finish.

Model Power track isn't up to much (likewise their rolling stock), but I think that a tree that plays carols is high on the list of unwanted tat (as in 'straight in a handy skip under cover of darkness' - I'd be ashamed someone might see it in my bin and think I bought it...).
Some photos of the rolling stock might convince someone to part with the cash. (Unlikely IMHO!).
Perhaps it's a mistake and the seller meant $2.95?
but youre missing:
Your order will also include 2 FREE Mystery Gifts!!!
maybe its a gold bar and a small pouch of diamonds

i have some airfix trains that run badly due to very little bush being left
tried Hornby ringfield bushes and the morto will not run unless i loosen all the screws so assume bushes are too long
tried shortening the bushes but then they twist and lose contact due to being a small dia
any ideas what bushes would work or a source for original
thanks
Havent done one in awhile but seem to remember the brushes and springs for Dapol and Hornbys Ex-Dapol models fit. At least in the Castle and 4f having the same parentage, I think the Castle springs were shorter as well. Try searching for x8314 and x8328 for brushes and x8315 and x8329 for springs. Look at the photos and if youre still not sure as the supplier for measurements

Which chassis? The standard one, for the Dutch version? The weathered one, for the blue version? Or the one with red buffer beams for the green version? Whatever Hornby did, they would be damned by the "they didn't do my one" lobby. They produced a previous batch of chassis, rebuilt them for you, and didn't charge for it. When those chassis ran out, they went on to the voucher scheme. This went on for a LONG time. They finally ended it when they concluded the affected models had been out on the market for a sufficiently long period.
Another point that is missed here is that the Class 31 is no longer made at the same factory. I haven't sat one of the new and old chassis' together to compare them, but I suspect there are bound to be differences. You only need look at how some other locos have changed since they were moved. If Hornby produced chassis that were incompatible, doubtless the moans on here would be even louder. Frankly, I think Hornby can't win with some, no matter what they do.
You missed the different casting for the sound version of the XS suffix refurbished chassis and the red bufferbeam refurbished chassis for the DCR model. Hornby have commissioned and SOLD OUT at least two batches of non-sound refurbished chassis blocks - I bought 4. AFAIK they havent produced a non-refurbished buffer beam cowl fitted chassis block yet for the 5512 and 31270 models - at least I havent seen any.

Anyone fancy a Dapol class 68 Body to repaint into plain blue/TPE or whatever?
The factory in chirk has the return 68005 bodies on sale for £10 a pop, complete with glazing etc, basically as removed
Maybe even try and make an 88 out of a couple of them!
Link please

You have either reversed the connections to the drawbar or the drawbar connections are shorting. Easier/ Quicker/ Better to scrap it and get a loco drive one.
except the locodrive 9Fs have a problem with disintegrating tender chassis. Had another mazac rotten one to fix this week. Its only Easier/ Quicker/ Better to scrap it if you can afford to do so and the item is actually of better quality as Hornby is finding out, not everyone wants or can afford the latest product supposedly better item from China.

Can anyone tell me what these two black things are?
Richie
They're diodes for the directional lighting setup

Anyone else seen this nonsense -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132372067143
Highlights: "Chassis has been shortened (cut back) at both ends by a previous owner" and "without any other fault that I can see" - well, I can see that the mid section is completely rotten from all the cracking and if the ends were "cut back" before they fell off by themselves I would be very surprised
£30 for a 2nd hand motor and some screws? no

A couple of months after another manufacturer announces they are making a class 29.
pardon my ignorance, who else is making a class 29?
-
afaik the Baby Deltic bogies were not reused, while basically the same the cross members and equalising beams were drilled with bigger holes to aid in weight reduction. Three basic types of equalising beams were fitted to the Class 20 depending on batch. Very generally Pilot scheme locos had a flat type with no fluting, production models were fitted with the I beam fluted type and later production with headcode box locos were fitted with the fluted / stress relieving holed variety. As the locos went through the workshops for overhaul they seem to have been split from their bogies which were overhauled separately, put in a parts pool and freely replaced on any member of the class as required. As always its best to work from a photo. Bachmann to their credit do list spare part numbers for each bogie type, might be worth contacting them if you want one/two of the other type? they are not to difficult to change

Anyone else spotted the deliberate mistake?
and dont get me started on "Ultrascale" prices and lead time.

Hi all
I'm trying to get a bit of information regarding the D600 warships when they were withdrawn, I know the following-
D600 Active withdrawn in BR Blue with full yellow panel
D601 Ark Royal BR green with Small yellow panel
D602 Bulldog Chromatic Blue with small yellow panel
and all three had headcode boxes, what I'm missing is info on D603 and D604, did they have headcode boxes and what liveries were they withdrawn in please?
ian
Conquest and Cossack were both withdrawn in Green syp and the whole class were fitted with the same style of headcode box

Apart from the EM conversion with a lack of wheels I find the line "Postage will be by Royal Mail, or ParcelForce, this naturally costs a little more but I refuse to use couriers, who lose, or damage items, or leave them in display in your porch." far more humorous (or deluded)
