  1. Plodding along with my sea wall bit of the layout. Nearly ready for water after painting the rocks and completing the opposite side of the tunnel to the sea.
  2. I have started to get on with the cliff face. I didn’t do as much as I hoped in the past month, after breaking a finger playing cricket in the last match of the season. The line finishes at a terminus that holds 4 or 5 coaches.
  3. The get together is on an earlier date this year. 2nd December with a start time of 6pm until late in the evening. Again the landlord has agreed to food being available. John Herbert is aiming to break the attendance record and is hoping that we can get more than 60 turn up this year. If you are interested in joining us then please do so.
  4. Glad someone knew. Great scene from the film.
  5. Sneaky reference to a classic cult movie in that news letter.
  6. Starting to look how I want it. Sand not permanently in place, put some down to see what it might look like.
  7. The model not the real thing. Lots of stuff done at BH on the loco, modules now out for overhaul etc. A few good videos of traction motor blowers working etc. Somewhere in the past I read an article about the potential for the Cl89 model(?) going ahead but unfortunately some agreement was not possible.
  8. Another plug for the Badger. Sure I read somewhere of it being a potential goer but didn't get proceeded with.
  9. The Scalescenes printable sheet looks ok, but a bit of repair work is required where the ink has run thanks to the glue and hope to have one length finished soon. There will need to be some groynes built too to stop that long shore drift. I'm now on the lookout for a dumper and a JCB as I remember seeing them occasionally (by the Teignmouth sign) in a compound and driving along the sea wall
  10. An idea of what I have planned.
  11. A long time since last posting. The benefit of having kids! An extension/rebuilding project for the 'branch line' part of the layout to make it more sturdy and make the run longer along with the beginnings of DCC controlled signalling on the main layout along with a few additions to rolling stock that fit in with my liking for EE traction.
  12. Have you got dimensions for the clock? My wannabe FP shed has lights inside but I want to add a clock (illuminated). Thanks
  13. Good to see the greatest band ever appear in the graffiti. It doesn't look like a disused railway line so I'll go with the 'train heave onto Euston. You left your girlfriend on the platform, with a really nagging notion that you'll return.....'
  14. I couldn't get to the Deltic weekend. If I had been able to I would have gone to support what I think was a real groundbreaking move. Normally I wouldn't go to places like the Bluebell due to a lack of diesel action. Interesting to see people talking about the Bluebell struggling when it had to pay to rebuild the line. What can be better than getting something really different in and making a fair amount of money for a weekend? It just shows that (some diesels) will drag the punters in.
  15. Nearly a year since the last update. It has been pretty quiet due to footy, cricket and work as well as the usual home stuff. Anyway, I was bought some lights for Christmas (Train$ave) and have started to install them. I must say they look rather tall but the kids will like the novelty of having a couple of platforms lit up. I have also started install some working colour lights using the Traintech decoders and at the moment these appear to be half decent. They are controlling just red/green two-aspects before I take the plunge with 4 aspects with route indicators (not necessarily using the same make of decoders). It has to be said that the layouts on here continue to inspire even when there isn't time to work on my own layout especially those with English Electric Type 5 and also their Type 4 on their roster.
  16. If only the 89 becomes reality. Once went to Leeds for it on a Saturday morning only for it to expire more or less opposite what is now the White Rose Centre. Had to be rescued by a 47. Some things never change on the ECML. Maybe we will be lucky in the future as lots of prototypes are now being offered by manufacturers.
  17. Very sad news. Being a Yorkshireman, the layout evoked what our county and the industrial North was like in the 50's. In model form it brought many of the kitchen sink dramas such as A Taste of Honey and Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. An inspiration to many. R.I.P MarkA
  18. Definitely had a Class 33 on the Plymouth - Paignton working in the 1980's, possibly mid 1980's. I thought it was unusual as the main loco used to be a Class 50. Also remember seeing 33027 working an Exeter -Paignton job on a Sunday, probably in around 1985 These were all when on holiday.
  19. I can't remember if it was a free trial as it was a long time ago. The box was the first attempt I had had at making a kit that was precut. I now do mix and match on our layout, the kids get a chance to do bits and pieces without worrying if things go wrong as we can print out new sheets. In terms of which kit is better, I think much depends on what you're after as the Smart Models fit well into layout with lots of Deltics.
  20. I had a go at building the Lowgates signal box when I was off at Christmas but have only just taken it up into the loft. It seems to be ok for my skill level but I think it would really benefit from some 'proper' window frames and railings. I thought I'd get a photo from the site of the bridge and posed No15 in front of the box to see if it adds to the station/shed area. The side wall looks very rippled, it will need lots of disguising, it seemed very flat when it was put in place a year ago but it is all part of the learning experience.
  21. I have just about built the freebie signal box too, this afternoon. I have done a few Scalescene bits and pieces including the small signal box. It will be interesting to see how the Smart Models kit sits amongst the other stuff when I go in the loft tomorrow.
