  1. Ipswich show proved good for parts, new kits & second hand OO wagons, for parts & chassis also a non running Airfix 14XX need to check the repair sheet to see how to get a runner plus ideas. One was a Tri-ang Horse Box with added panels think somebody was trying to make a steam-heat van, but will make a version of the Seaton Brake.

A couple of different OO9 wagons, using Peco N gauge kits a Tank on the original flat & a cattle wagon body to be altered into a livestock wagon, the Peco body body widened  & lengthen roof removed & larger drop down door /amp added with a couple of the Langley seaside donkeys as weight. Work continues on the passenger brake, adding outside bracing and ventilators, think it might have a 3rd passenger as well.

  2. Took Hawkins CBC entry to Ipswich Show today and got out my layout show file. In which I have these old Railway Model Magazine cuttings. Not sure which magazines or where I got them from saying that my Dad was a modeller back in the day.

  3. Nothing to show I have been working on cleaning up a few buildings from older layouts, clean u up glue & paint off. I think I'll have walls for OO9 wooden engine shed & parts for Coffee processing plant. They came from a Christmas layout I built about 10 years ago which used a battery powered plastic train set. Santa's Toy factory was a Hamster house with added walls some part from Airfix Battle of Waterloo farm house, and the soon to be Engine shed. The  Biggest job is getting white emulsion paint I used for snow off roofs. Some of Walls will also do for some other HOn9 layout I got ideas for. Proves you can recycle stuff from older layouts.

  4. sorry if this is the wrong place, but I too have modeled Western Canada. I built HarrTerm a small layout using freelance set in North Vancouver. It is current stored in the loft waiting to become part of a loft empire well that was the plan about 15 years ago when it got stored. I then switched to smaller Micro layouts. It featured in Model Trains International, but off the top of my head when ?

HarrTerm short for Harrington Terminal, was set in the freelance Harrington district of North Vancouver with connection to BN & BC Rail. It was a freight only layout. The era is mid 1980's so I could have the older BCR two tone green as well as some of red white & blue BC Rail stuff. Itried to include a bit of an urban street scene but wanted a run down area of mainly brick built buildings. One idea I got from Model Raillroader was to have a row of 3 buildings, but  using 2 kits the middle one was a demolished one just a floor and a hoarding at the front. On Harrterm they were a run down budget hotel, DPM house with storefront & covered staircase then demolished section & a corner building part Pola & Life-Like parts I think ,as the local Seaman's Mission.

All the stock and scene are stored in boxes. BN 149 was detailed to an actual BN switcher which I photographed back in 1984.

  5. Many thanks, that is rather interesting. The middle two buildings in particular look rather Morporkian. I have a couple of building kits awaiting construction, but that's a definite possibility if there's space left. I'm also planning on including a Clacks tower (adapted from a wind pump kit).

I agree on the architectural style - pretty much everyone except Josh Kirby seems to view the Disc that way. I looked into some of the continental building suppliers as well, as Sir Terry describes Ankh-Morpork as having European elements.

The fashion of the people of Ankh-Morpork brings up a point that gave me a few headaches - how do I represent the weird and wonderful inhabitants? I'm planning on ordering some Andrew Stadden figures for the ordinary citizenry. Some Revell 1/72 English foot soldiers from the Hundred Years' War will represent the Watch. Airfix's Robin Hood set has provided me with some Assassins and working class citizens (and Friar Tuck is to become a wizard if I can figure this sculpting lark out). Some Airfix Ancient Britons will be turned into Hubland barbarians and, with strategic amputation, dwarfs. Noch do a Grim Reaper figure and some very Hammer Horror vampires, which I'd be a fool not to include...

(Oh yeah, and one of the things that triggered this whole project was the discovery of a bag of Langley monkeys and apes. One of the apes will be turned into the Librarian, but of course I have no use for the mon- er, the M-words)

    Tom

I've got a few OO/HO plastic Dark  Ages & Middle Ages soldiers,  Barbarian,  Zulu's etc. Not much use on Brazilian Coffee Plantation or to convert to HO. So if you like some them give me a PM.

    post-9223-0-03603400-1540413176_thumb.jpg

Then if there any use I could send you them.

  7. I do like the hospital brake van with centre cab with great weathering detail. The plantation figures have turned out great looking forward to seeing more. :)

Thanks the brake van was a kit-bashed but used the idea of Road Vans as they were called, think the Southern Had some, part brake part freight van. Also behind Coquimbo Steam tram is a shorty caboose/freight car.

Think Smallbrook Studios did a resin model. Mine was a kit bash of Hornby H&B van Dapol Brake van kit parts on a Hornby long wheel freight chassis. The short wheel Coquimbo Cabboose/frieght is on a shorten chassis it the only hauled rolling stock on the bottom loop of Coquimbo. Body from other part caboose steps brake body & open body.

  8. Thank HonestTom, mydadstoys & Bill J.

Yes I do like weathering locomotives & stock  to look work worn. I did a Tramloco for my HO Coquimbo Traction which was even more weathered than the Ruston well only slightly.  Also there is my brake van from my OO St Augstines Hospital Railway. Which again I made look very well used. I have been going through my old photos & found thes.

Here's the 1st 4 3 from Langley white metal figures a Donkey handler & 2 sitting sports fans, for a bit of weight in brake van. The have had cowboy hats added from plastic figures. Making a guard/conducter standing 2 workers riding in brake. 4th is a plastic cowboy figures who was ment to having a meal at a campfire but painted up as the brakeman made for riding on front of Ruston  manually sanding the track. Views of these figures painted front & back. Brakeman needs a quick repaint as did this when I built the Ruston.

  10. Hi Angliacan

Can I ask you for details about the couplings that you are using? Is something similar available in 7mm?

    Regards

    Bill

    Bill

I'm using the Peco Bemo style OO9 coupling they come in 2 types with wire & plastic loops. Not sure what 7mm NG modeller use, years ago they used Fleischmann ones which slimmer version of OO type coupler with looked very similar to prototype NG ones. Now Hornby Bachmann make small British style couplers these could be used.

Don't know if these HO/OO ones would be too small for 7 mm.

  11. Started work again on a older layout OO9 Pizza Micro, set in a Brazilian Coffee Plantation.

1st idea was half Plantation, half Processing plant with a 16.5mm loading track. Which I started to work on laid track & built a simple Ruston diesel Bachmann N Plymouth chassis with Thomas  plastic body, single flat wagon plasticard body on Peco underframe. but track needed relaying as problems occurred.  but then stop working on it. Seen with Little Wickham 2 A4 Micro.

    post-9223-0-58943400-1539875718_thumb.jpg

After completing Hawkins Indiana, I was looking around for a new project The Coffee Plantation was a similar size. But after looking at it and my stock collection, changed to have 2 different layouts. Now Pizza will be Plantation & Micro OO dual 16.5mm & 9mm. I have started work on 1st new rolling stock a short wheeled brake van  Dundas Quarry coach body on Peco chassis. After realizing that the brake van was smaller than the Ruston cab, looking at photos in books & online noted roiling stock from warmer climate had more vents Trinidad Coaches so added vent and outside bracing to add height & width.

    Hawkins Indiana

    post-9223-0-27297600-1538942965_thumb.jpg

Fall 1984 in Hawkins, Indiana, backwater smalltown Mid Western USA, the old rundown L&N Railroad depot harks back, while Starcourt Mall billboard proclaims a bright future.  Locals go about their daily life on Main Street as unnoticed in railroad yard a group of teenagers and behind a diner a guitar man by a Blue Police Box.

These are not as strange as it seems to Sci-Fi fans, Hawkins Indiana is the setting for Stanger Things, where the 4 teenagers Steve, Dustin, Lucas & Max are hunting for monsters.

1/87th scale Hawkins has used mostly items which were to hand including fencing, telegraph pole, signs and scenic items with  a few new ones. The Diner is a modified Dapol Flat & shop, while the Depot,  from scribed siding, HO parts roof, doors & windows  around a Peter Pig 15mm Western Depot. The various characters are modified HO/OO plastic figures plus 3 15mm white metal ones for younger teenagers. Railroad items L&N Depot, with old switch stand, Road Crossing Signal, yard track with box car & trackbumper.

  14. Hawkins Indiana is nearly finished. Just a few things to finish and then the photos. I would like the finish before today start of 13th Dr Who series 11 start tonight.

Been putting the final touches together, signs on depot building L&N & Hawkins In name board, ballestting the mainline, a billboard advertising Starcourt Mall, which will feature in new series of Stanger Things. Redone the back scene boards now on 3 sides of CBC, The open road side very similar ro 1st one but with a different road junction, sam Station Sqaure building, the main back one I lowered the Court House, but made the back street a little higher the 3rd side I used a small Monon Yard photo. To give a more rural part of the scene. To all 3 boards I changed the trees to a more Fall scene.

Just need to add to people & take a few photos. Nearly 1st modelling project completed in a few years. Been a good way any to get back into. A little bit of building, both kit bashing & with kit parts and new walls etc, scenery modelling people based on characters from the show and even railroad car. Not bad for small space.

  15. Work continues on with Hawkins. The Dalek's have arrived still need to paint them.

Been working on more figures a conversation on the facebook Micro Layouts asked if I was going to add any of the Paranormal or sci-fi elements to the scene. So far.Dr Who Missy & Cyberman, with 12th Dr for size Stranger Things Demogoargan plus 3 towns folk. Been going through some of my figure boxes and found parts suitable for conversation with a little bit of online photos of various subjects.

Missy is a Redbox Gangster Moll shorten in leg with a HO upper head & trunk plus green filler. The Cyberman is a  larger plastic Roman solider with green stuff wire and plastic card addition. Demogoargan is a 1/72th Esci Barbarian from spare box with green stuff & plastic card petals & fingers. The towns folk are from various OO/HO figures slightly altered.

  18. Hi following posting on a couple of Micro Layout sites on Facebook, I've been working on the 7 figures to go into the scene. All are fidures based on characters in the show. 3 from Dr Who episode Hell Bent 12th Dr, Clara & Ashildr. 4 from Stranger Things Steve & Dustin a pairing in both sessions, Max & Lucas from session 2. I keep referring to online photos to get the both in style dress of The series.

They come from a number of different ranges the 3 Dr Who & Steve are from plastic figures which I had to hand the younger teenagers from Stranger Things are mainly 15mm Wargammer figures which were order online to have the difference in height & size I wanted. 12th Dr is from a couple of parts of a 1/72th Ceaser WW2 Partisans. The legs & long coat of one with body of another with arms altered to play a guitar rather than sub-machine gun the trunk shortened a little in height with head replaced with a Model Power 1/87 one without any hat. The guitar was made from a piece of scrap thin plastic sheet. Clara is from a couple of cheaper Chinese HO/OO women's figures top half including mini skirt hair in a pigtail and easy to paint into diner uniform with legs from another figure who hands on hips were to become the top Max. Ashildr was from a Dapol ex Aiffix Station Assesories lady & legs from Chinese HO/OO which became Clara. As Ashildr will be place inside Clara diner/Tardis the more formal 1950's was not anissue. Steve is a mixture of Model Power 1/87 Postman & Redbox Gangster. The gangster was with baseball bat trunk was added to postman legs & head with cap been change into Steve mullet. The postman sack became a back pack. Steve carried a baseball bat dealing with various monster in session 1.

For the 3 younger teenagers were Peter Pig range 15mm African figures & separate heads. Dustin a Modern Media figure with a head change to his baseball hat head, & rusk sac off Lucas figure. Lucas was from another Modern Media figure with rucksack removed this time a camera person with older film camera change to 1980's bulky video camera & head swap to one with a headband. Max was the Chinese lady figure top half who legs where added to Clara figure with legs from Modern Civilain figure.

  19. Done a little work around the diner have change the coke sign plus added a few adverts for Hot Dogs, Burgers & Fries, plus added a view of inside the diner door from a couple of photos one of a generic North American 1950's Diner the other from Dr Who story.  The door is from half a modern door of the Triang Booking Office found in the spare box.   Not sure how the phone camera shows the small detail but I know it there.
