  1. I've always felt that the sheer expense of it is the best reason to not smoke... Morning all. Looks lovely and sunny here! Last day of work this week - going to a wedding tomorrow.
  2. I quite liked working 8am-8pm, when I was doing so before September. 8pm-8am wasn't so great but wasn't too bad. Two 12-hour day shifts followed by four 12-hour night shifts, however, was quite painful...
  3. Morning all. Sunny and clear outside, already up to 12C. Forecast says maybe 20 later on. My finger aches, still. Let this be a reminder to me not to be a clumsy muppet...
  4. I do not approve of today's weather. Too gloomy. Today at work, I managed to slip with a tape gun and slice my finger. I have four nice gouges, one really quite deep, down my middle left finger (and scratches on the index). It was bleeding a fair amount but seems to have calmed down. Entirely my own stupid fault. So now I have toothache, minor back ache, and finger ache. The problems with my flat have been fixed! The ladder to my spare room is fixed to the wall, my front door closes smoothly, my kitchen door closes full stop, and the blind in my living room isn't falling off the wall! (It's only taken four and a bit months...)
  5. Fairly grey here too. Bit warmer than yesterday morning though.
  6. I thoroughly approve of this concept - if only I could!
  7. Today wasn't too bad in the end. Plenty busy but nothing going too wrong, and my colleagues weren't being too moronic. My back appears to have decided to ache a little today. No idea why. Today I discovered that my letting agent has no keys for my flat. Their workman is coming round tomorrow to sort some stuff out that's needed fixing since before I moved in (over four months ago), and he's having to come round early enough to get my key before I go to work. He'll then leave it with the agents and one of them will meet me at my flat when i get home from work to give it back. They asked me this afternoon if I could get a copy cut - I pointed out that I was at work and the girl seemed surprised... I have come to the conclusion that I should start constructing some form of model some millennia soon. A small board in the region of 1500x300 mm might be appropriate and would fit on either my table or my desk. But what to put on such? Cousin's wedding on Friday - should be good fun! Just need to dig out my suit and make sure it's clean... It turns out that for this entire month I'm not working more than four days in one week - this Friday off for said wedding, next Wednesday off to have a wisdom tooth out that's causing me hassle, and then the Easter and Wedding bank holidays!
  8. I'm blaming you for monday, Don! It's only 3C outside right now but looking clear and sunny; we'll see what it does. Just sitting here eating my cereal right now. Really don't wanna go to work...
  9. I have a shortage of decent whisky in the house. In fact, my grand quantity of whisky is one miniature bottle of Famous Grouse. I should fix this - suggest me something relatively reasonably priced and good!
  10. Stop being broken, you lot.Be fixed! Not exactly rising early today - 1030 - but there you go. Had intended to go visit my mother, but I managed to overlook the fact that there are no buses on a sunday between there and here... so she'll have to come to me. We're showing 11C here right now, and it looks clear and sunny outside. Lovely!
  11. I have raided the shops for some flowers, a gift voucher, a mother's day card and a (belated) birthday card for my female parental unit, which I'll have to deliver to her tomorrow. Tested a few old locos earlier - the ancient Smokey Joe and 040T "King George" kinda move if poked a lot. Duchess of Atholl is almost as reluctant. They all probably need a lot of TLC after being stored for a decade or so! The green Gronk I won on here a few years ago runs adequately - it's not encountered electricity once whilst in my possession, until today. Got a few more things to test a bit later on when I feel so inclined - Duchess of Sutherland, Black Five 5407, and an Airfix Royal Scot 6103. Only the Black Five ever ran well in the first place, and that was horrendously noisy, so I don't expect anything good. Atholl is definitely being kept, and possibly SMokey Joe and the Black Five if I can do anything useful with them. Think I might offload the rest - whether before or after maintenance is undecided! This evenings tasks involve tidying up, and possibly CV-spamming if I can find anything worth applying to.
  12. I think we can probably survive without photos of that moon. Full, partial, or inverse... Oh hey, the postwoman arrived. And brought my a second hand controller and power supply! Time to chuck a few old pieces of track on my desk and discover if any of the ancient locos work...
  13. Morning all. Today's major task is to raid the shops in town for suitable gifts for my mother. i may have to resort to gift vouchers and chocolate, because I am useless at buying presents...
  14. Well, it's still looking quite sunny and pleasant outside! Think I'll wander up to the leisure centre and go swimming in ~30. Then after that the boys are coming round for a night of film and xbox. Work today was pretty much the same as always - namely, pants. On the plus side, weekend! Must go raid the shops for stuff for my mum tomorrow - seeing as I managed to misplace her birthday a week and a bit ago... Whoops! The way I see the tuition fees situation is very simple: these days, students are actually better off than I was in a sense - the tuition fee loan is really not something to worry about, since it never becomes overdue and is only paid back when you're earning enough to do so. In my day, I may have had only £1100 a year in tuition fees, but it was *not* covered by a student loan so I had to actually pay it! EDIT: Oh hey, looks like i can't remember timetables. Swimming is only from 1930, so can't due to when my friends are coming over. Damn.
  15. Thanks for all the welcome backs, guys. 12C outside, grey and gloomy. Apparently might get as warm as 16 later on - don't think I'm gonna need my big coat at work today! Today's gonna be a horrible day - it was stockcheck day yesterday, so I have all of today's deliveries plus more than half of what came in yesterday to do, if I want to have everything clear by the end of the day. Not gonna happen.
  16. You could say that, if you had a taste for atrocious puns - which, let's face it, we all do!
  17. Heya, Tony and BoD. Good to see you both! Unfortunately yes, and unfortunately no - however, I have done a few productive things in that regard recently. Been selling off old models on ebay from when I was a kid, and bought a second hand power supply (since I have nothing - I can then use it for both testing what I have and for any future project). Having moved house yet again four months ago, I have a little more space - enough for something worth doing! It's just a matter of deciding what, then acquiring cash, then spending cash. I think it's got to be something in the general ballpark of 4mm, since I like making kits and so forth - 2mm is a little fiddly for my taste in that regard. As far as the job goes... well, I'm continuing to look for something else and have been for a while! I've not been able to drive for the last six months, after (for some reason) passing out at work and appearing to have some form of seizure. Been having (and mostly waiting for) tests to find out what's going on; there seems to be nothing wrong with me yet. On the plus side, chucking the car, moving house, and using the airport bus pass is saving me at least £600 a year not even considering fuel!
  18. Woah, is this thread STILL going after transplantation from the old RMweb? I wonder if anyone remembers me at all - I've been gone that long. Oh well! Well, I'm back again!
  19. is not looking forwards to night shifts...
