  1. Thanks Glenn, thats really kind and helpful of you - much appreciated. Rich
  2. Hello Paul, Sorry to drag up an old topic and subject. I'm just getting back into model railways (albeit OO gauge, rather than O) after a 10 year gap and having not really progressed beyond the track on a baseboard phase its a whole new learning curve trying to do it right!! I want to make sure that I get the track looking right and was really impressed with the outcome of your ballasting and trackwork that I'm going to attempt it the same way (watch me make a right mess of it!!). I can understand your concept of spraying the rail side on with Railmatch dark rust, but i'm a little lost with the Sleeper grime - is that to give the sleepers a more grimy wooden look than rusty? Also do you just lightly cover them, or liberally spray the sleepers? I presume by spray your meaning aerosol can, rather than air gun? Also, do you colour the ballast anyway in terms of paint or do you find its a natural look? One final question - sorry to pester! - with the spray painting of track and the pvc glueing of ballast, how do you deal with points and specifically the point blades not getting stuck up with glue? Apologies if im being thick! Fantastic looking layout btw - really enjoying the topic. Thanks for any help you can give. Regards Rich
  3. Thanks - i'll get one of those! Thanks for that - this may be a silly question, and ignore my ignorance! But with the permanent magents, does that uncouple every kadee that passes over it - or does it have to be slackened or 'jerked' to uncouple/release? I presume the numbers are the kadee part numbers? Ta Rich
  4. Claggy, I love that shot of 37410 sat by the box looking across the river. As a photographer, give me some dry ground to sit on and a bit of sun, I could sit there photographing the trains all day long! You'll have to give the me GPS co-ordinates for the sat nav!! I take it that's low tide??? Superb scene mate, to me it shows just how much effort is put into layouts when a picture like that makes you seriously believe it is the Scottish Highlands. Perfect. Just make sure those 'ying-ying' GM built things don't infiltrate the scene like they have at Ft Bill!!! Rich
  5. Hi Glenn, Ah! Simple questions always have simple answers! Its a while since i purchased rolling stock - my previous modelling expliots of 10years or more ago were almost exclusively Lima Mk1s and 2s! NEM pockets i doubt had been thought of let alone used! I'm getting back into the hobby slowly - spent this afternoon completing the baseboard for my new layout in the office. Interesting to hear your using Kadee's - i'm planning to fit them to my stock to enable uncoupling without the hand of god! Any tips or advice? With me it will be locos (modern traction) and two-axle wagons in the main, plus possibly the odd Class 150/142! I presume the NEM pockets used are all at the right height? Do you use permanent magnets or electric ones? Tell me to shut up if im asking too much! Cheers Rich
  6. Hi guys,Have been admiring your work on the layout for a while now, but having just joined as a member, your latest batch of images have prompted me to ask a question! On the above BFK, there's an unusual 'U' shaped bar protruding from both ends of the coach. I'm presuming this is some form of semi-permenant close coupling system? Do you mind if I ask which one and what?!Regards,Rich
  7. Thanks for the welcome ... and the info, that helps a lot! To be honest, being early days I didn't really think people would be interested, but given your gentle push, I might start a forum posting on here and see how it goes! Happy to document my progress if people are interested in reading it .... my god, that now gives a major challenge to get somewhere near your standard Ta Rich
  8. Hi Peter, Well a combination of Llanbourne and Waverley West have convinced me to register and post a congratulatory note. I know its all been said before but Llanbourne (and Waverley West - well done Dave!) should be and will be inspirational to many modellers. I'm just about to embark on a new layout which is taking up one side of the office wall - well it will be a distraction from work if nothing else! - but if I can get it to 50% of your standard, i'll be happy! Well done. Cheers Rich PS Cheeky I know, but can you help me how? How long are the Hornby 142 and the Bachmann 150 models (i.e. measured separately)? I'm trying to work out fiddle yard space! Well done again.
