  1. Looks very good from side on. Can you show us a view from an oblique angle like 45 degrees to the coach?
  2. Hi - I'll start by saying that I'm a real novice when it comes to model railway electronics and DCC. My layout is under construction and currently runs on DC. I'm planning a move to DCC in the coming year however. My first scenic board has a crossover to install. As this is my first foray into setting up one of these, I have decided to mount it all on test board first to check that the turnout operating mechanisms, motors and wiring all function correctly before applying them to the layout. I have bought two Cobalt iP Digital turnout motors for operating the turnouts. They are set up for DCC but I understand that they can be wired for DC and I plan to do this in the interim. I wanted to test the mechanical switching system that I have installed. For this aspect, I thought that by applying power to tabs/connection points 1 & 2 (labelled DCC IN) on the Colbalt motor I would be able to activate movement of the throw bar and hence testthe activation. However, in carrying out the above I'm not getting any response from the Cobalt at all in either the SETUP or RUN modes. I've tested the power sources and they seem to be fine with 9- 12 V available. Am I using the wrong connections for DC or do I need to make additional connections to make the motor operational? Or, was my assumption that they can be used for DC wrong? Thank you in advance for any advice received Regards Steve
  3. I agree - The sharpness of your lining around the windows and panels is superb. I think that the satin finish helps to achieve scale colour and any perceived blemishes adds to the realism for me. Very nice. Would there be any slight weathering on the roof Ian? Steve
  4. Nice work - they look very convincing Ian Steve
  5. Two very nice atmospheric photos Jerry. I especially like the L&Y 0-8-0 and the make up of the goods train which is of a good length and looks suitably arranged to my eyes at least
  6. Looks really useful - is this more finger nail technology Ian or something different ?
  7. Looking really nice Keith - GWR elegance at its best.
  8. Keith - you know that we are all going to want one of these 43xx's when you have finished - haha!!
  9. I agree with your thoughts. That Tim can produce a model in detail and quality in 2mm, that compares with the best in the larger scales is a remarkable demonstration of his skill. It's a wonderful thing for our scale that we have these modellers who are always pushing forward with what is possible and showing the way for the rest of us. It's always inspirational to follow his work.
  10. Hi Jerry, It's looking pretty neat so far. Out of curiosity what type of ballast medium did you use? Regards Steve
  11. I would agree with this practice especially for mainline type applications. If you are ballasting a siding or a yard scene, this would not be necessary i would think.
  12. Thanks for your help. The photos are very useful indeed. Do you know how I could get my hands on any building drawings for the dairy company ? I don't know if they keep any, but they would help a great deal. Otherwise I will just have to use the overhead photos and the tankers as references for dimensions. I'm confident I can get a reasonable representation this way, if all else fails. Steve
  13. Hi K, Thanks for the confirmation. Do you have any other information on the dairy at St Erth? I will be building a partial model of it for my layout. Steve
  14. That's the one Don - same driving wheel axle spacing, although Keith has integrated parts of the Farish Castle chassis.
  15. The driving wells are mounted on the milled chassis available from 2mm Association.
  16. Fresh out of the Macclesfield Workshops, aka Keith Armes, is 5069 Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This is a Farish Castle, that in short summary, has had a tender mounted Maxon RE10 motor fitted driving the 2mm Association Nigel Ashton milled chassis and 38:1 gearbox. Finescale wheels, repositioned etched coupling rods, cross head assembly and slidebars complete the chassis mods. The cab has been lowered and the splashers re profiled and repositioned correctly by Keith. The super long name plate challenge was superbly answered by 247 Developments - referred by Jerry Clifford, I also recommend them. This loco easily pulls 15 coaches on my layout including some tight non scenic curves and gradients. I have only added the coal so far and full credit to Keith for producing this superb running conversion whose performance and looks are now befitting of her prototype namesake.
  17. They both look nice Bryn, especially the inside of the Catfish. Have you considered adding a small amount of the rust shade to the springs, and a dab of an oil colour around the bearing boxes? I also add a little silver shading to the buffer shafts. Steve
  18. Ian, I agree that a lot of good 2mm scale modelling defies expectations and it is difficult to tell at times. Your exquisite coach painting in particular is an example. On another note what is your overall philosophy for weathering on Modbury? Steve
  19. Modbury has become a really nice atmospheric model and a valuable historical record of some special railway history. I especially like the second photo down taken at a prototypical level. Thanks for sharing Ian.
  20. Hi Justin, Thanks for responding to my request and the information provided - that is really helpful. I'm building a 2mm fine scale model of St Erth railway station that features the creamery there. At the time of modelling 1957, I believe that it was a United Dairies operation. Steve
  21. Hi There, Great information on here. Could anyone direct me to a listed of diagrams and their wagon numbers for GWR/ Ex GWR diagrams? In particular I'm looking for the range on numbers for Diagram 051 Steve
  22. Hi There, Lots of interesting info on here for any scale. I'm converting a bunch of Dapol milk tankers to 2mm fine scale. Can anyone here direct me to a list of wagon numbers for the Diagram 051 mid mounted platform series? Steve
  23. Hi Nigel - To me it looks like a loco that the cleaners have been over and it has just been turned out ready for the road. I think that the Satin Black treatment has worked nicely bringing the lining colour tones down to scale. The Matt Black on the smoke box is also effective adding some variance as would be expected. Nice work and thanks for sharing. SteveM
  24. Thanks Anthony - I ended up manufacturing a gate from various sizes of styrene strip.
