  1. I have recently purchased some Schneider LED ground signals for my Swiss HO layout, these are 3 aspect signals , the following 3 combinations are used in SBB signalling (T-B stop, proceed with caution, proceed): The signals have 4 wires, I assume the wires are 1 per LED and a common return, there are no instructions but it says on the box that they work at 12-16V dc or ac, Im guessing I will still need a resistor. I’ve never installed any signalling before and electronics aren't my strong point but would the following circuit using a 3 way rotary switch work to give me the 3 desired combinations of aspects? Many thanks in advance
  2. I’m planning to base mine very loosely on Brig, hopefully one day it will look a little bit like a smaller version of this
  3. today has seen me make start on detailing the trackbed. I have fitted cable ducting and dummy point motors which has made a massive difference to the look of my Peco points. Next onto fitting ground signals and a few other details then that should be one of the two boards more or less finished except for the catenary
  4. This weekend sees the last workings of ICE1 sets to Interlaken, here are a couple of pictures of them in Switzerland from over the years. Never thought I would miss them and usually trad to avoid traveling on them in favour of a "proper" loco but they are no doubt better than their replacements and were one of the most comfortable trains around
  5. Another couple of Roco wagons off the workebench this morning, the before and after views
  6. A bit more detailing around the road and houses over the last few days, that's this area now more or less finished now. Time to move onto detailing around the track now...
  7. Thank you, I was lucky enough to live in Bern 2009-2012 so have a pretty extensive collection of Swiss pictures from this time. I still visit 2 or 3 times a year and get out lineside with my camera as much as possible, it’s that or spend time with the in-laws so the slightest hint of sun and I’m away in the car.....
  8. Not so many at Göschenen itself but I have plenty taken on the Gotthard nordramp: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bantam61668/albums/72157627026682925 How I miss those Summer days at Wassen watching the seemingly endless procession of freights climbing up the valley across the 3 levels
  9. I have been considering Därligen as the basis for my planned (in the loosest possible sense) attic layout and have Vollmer the station. I am also thinking of including the gravel loading works and warehouse type siding just to the east of Leissigen to add some shunting /freight interest. If you want some extra variety you could always recreate an event such as the 2010 Interlaken dampffest which saw a lot of unusual workings down the branch, from memory on the standard gauge the following all ran: DB 01 202 DB 64 518 ÖBB 52 221 SNCF 241.A.65 Eb 3/5 5810 Be 6/8 13302 De 4/4259 All this along with the usual steam on the Brünig and some visiting steam working to Zweilütschnen, a great weekend, just a pity it rained for 2 days
  10. I placed an order on 9th May, received an invoice on 10th and the parcel was shipped on the 12th. I haven’t received it yet but I know international shipping is a bit slow at the moment, hopefully it will arrive in the next few days. It was shipped with Swiss Post. Here is another supplier of Swiss detail bits that maybe of interest, not used them myself https://www.mbapiro.ch/produkte.php?grp_id=2&content_id=8
  11. Been busy detailing the area around the houses recently, moving onto the road next, just waiting for a box of goodies to arrive from SwissModelRail
  12. I find this site good for current European track plans, not to scale but gives a good idea of the layout, combined with Google maps or similar and you get a good feel for the track layout. http://www.sporenplan.nl/ For historic maps the "Journey through time maps" on the Swisstopo website are superb https://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/
  13. Looking at the Wikipedia page for Swiss signalling all 3 combinations of the 3 aspects of the dwarf signals are used but I guess I could probably do without the proceed signal if it were to simplify things significantly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_railway_signalling
  14. I posted this a couple of weeks ago in the DCC help section but had no replies so thought I'd try again here. A lot of questions here but I've never wired any signals before I have recently purchased some Schneider LED colour light signals for my Swiss ho layout in two varieties : two aspect (3 wires) 3 aspect ground signals (4 wires) These don’t come with any instructions but do say on the box that they work at 12-16V dc or ac. I assume the wires are 1 per LED and a common return. I’ve never installed any signalling before so how do I go about wiring these up. I don’t need them to automate with the route set or anything, I would just like to be manually control the lights, ideally using my DCC controller. I use a Roco Z21 so don’t have a separate accessory bus, do so just wire them up to the main bus with a suitable accessory decoder? Also what’s the best type of decoder to use for this, I have 9 signals in total (1x2 aspect and 8x3 aspect) so was thinking a couple of multiple accessory decoders might be the most cost effective way of doing it, would this work? I've also been looking at Q decoders but all the instructions are in German, am I right in thinking that each LED would require a separate out put on one of these so for example a Q16 would be able to control 5x 3 aspect ground signals? Also do I need to use resistors for the LEDs? I’m guessing not as the box says suitable for 12-16V. Many thanks in advance
  15. I plan to eventually, the idea fills me with dread though never having attempted it. Still a way to go before I get that far, currently working on signalling and detailing having just bought some Schneider ground signals, dummy point motors etc. Also I haven't really started the area beyond the turntable, need to finish off the hard standing here then scratchbuild a semi roundhouse shed which will be based loosely on the one at Brig.
  16. Yes, it comes from an argument with a railway journalist who accused me and some friends of been “jaded and fatuous” for preferring the loco hauled trains of Europe to the latest multiple units in the UK. It was the closest I could come up with to a German translation, you won’t find any units on this layout!
  17. Some recent progress on the freight facilities on the layout to add a bit of shunting interest, a simple low relief warehouse to help hide the fiddle yard, this is a kit bash form a Pikestuff distribution depot. Also a short siding along the front of the layout with a fuel unloading point and Kibri crane, inspired by the siding at the south end of Silenen station

  19. Thanks will give them a try, was once my local model shop, now I still get the chance to visit a couple of times a year when visiting the in-laws. Usually come back with a bag full of models and s a n empty wallet!!!
  20. I can’t have done too bad a job then, the retaining wall is indeed based on the one at Spiez we’ll spotted, still need to get some plants climbing up it
  21. The roundhouse will be based on the one at Brig https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Flive.staticflickr.com%2F65535%2F48968622222_aeeb75a725_b.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fflickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fgewoonsanderrr%2F48968622222%2F&tbnid=0UHcBvs0qZpe6M&vet=12ahUKEwjK5dL3iuroAhWRxOAKHRQ-A7UQMygHegUIARDhAQ..i&docid=Yp9jpHoBNiZMHM&w=1024&h=656&itg=1&q=brig lokschuppen&client=firefox-b-d&ved=2ahUKEwjK5dL3iuroAhWRxOAKHRQ-A7UQMygHegUIARDhAQ there is a poster on Flickr (I assume SBB employee) who regularly posts images inside and outside the depot buildings so I have plenty of material to work from.
  22. The overheads fill me with dread as I've never attempted them before. Sommerfeldt produce a spider for the turntable but it comes at a price...... https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Accessories/Catenary/Sommerfeldt-162/gb/modell_76597.html
  23. Thought it's about time I shared some pictures of my very much slow work in progress SBB layout Abgestumpft Einfältig. Its HO gauge, uses Peco code 75 track, most stock is Roco but with some from the usual other manufacturers, DCC control using a Roco Z21. It's not based anywhere in particular but is generally in the Bern/Lötschberg area around 2010 and measures 9'6x2 ft. Its certainly not based on any particular prototype but takes bits of inspiration form numerous locations (Luzern, Brugg, Brig etc). Still lots of work to do but with me been stuck in the house I've made more progress over the last month than the previous 2 years! Currently getting on with laying the hard standing around the turn table and scratchbuilding a roundhouse type building loosely based on Brig.
  24. Hi all, this an SBB based query not RhB but didn't want to start a new thread. I'm currently modelling an SBB depot (ca 2010) and am looking for detailing parts. Does anyone know where I maybe able to obtain some ground signals (not necessarily working), and also some point direction indicators (again not bothered if they don't connect to the point mechanism and rotate) and manual point levers? The bits I'm looking for can all be seen in the foreground of this picture of Erstfeld depot. I know the site in the link above does many useful detailing bits but cant seem to find the bits I want anywhere
