I have probably just made a mistake, probably quite a big mistake - I've opened the big white box of joy...

For those of you who are not aware of the big white box of joy, it contains a JLTRT 37 that I acquired earlier in the year and was trying to put off starting until I'd got a lot further with the various EM projects that I have on the go. This box has been calling me from the shelf for a few months now and I've managed to resist, until today!

Before construction starts in earnest, I've decided to have a good look at the body parts to figure out what needs to be done to represent my chosen prototype - 37415 in the IC 'Mainline' livery.

So far I've identified 3 panels that need to be removed, and several areas that need to be filled, as marked on the sides in the picture above. My first impressions on unwrapping the sides was of nicely defined castings with the minimum of flash. There was one bit that I wasn't too happy with though - on each side the window above the rectangular grille was connected to the grille below with a bit of resin. With a bit of care, and a fine pointed scriber, I've managed to remove this block and introduce a small gap between the window and the grille. No before pictures though, sorry.

Other additions that will need to be made are bulkheads behind the drivers seat, which I think were added at refurbishment. I just need to find a decent photo that shows the detail, as there seems to be a couple of different types.

Awesome! One day, I promise, one day I'll build one myself. I think we need a RMWeb group 7mm layout for all of us droolers to run the stock on! Everytime I see one of Brian's threads I find myself drueling! I look forward to seeing how you progress with this...

Did we ever see the tamper finished btw?

Erm no, as it's still not finished :icon_redface: :icon_redface: Perhaps I should be getting on with that as a break from the 455 instead of starting something new...

Uh oh, you've done it now..... icon_lol.gif

The majority of snow and ice may have gone, but it seems there's still a slippery slope near you.....

Was the kit you purchased for an unrefurbished 37? I thought JLTRT did both variants..

I'll be watching this with interest too ;)

Cheers. I did purchase a refurbished version, but it appears that the bodysides are common to all types of the kit, with just the cabs being different between the refurbished and unrefurbished versions.

That reminds me, I must check the cabs later to make sure they're the right ones  :O

Nice choice of livery for this cool.gif Intercity mainline 37s are not modelled often enough IMO

Are you going to try and do the 'Mt Fuji' name for it aswell? I wanted to do this in 4mm but could find a decent picture of the name to work from.

Am I right in assuming youve chosen 415 as it worked china clay /speedlink in cornwall wink.gif

You should have a go at the class 50 kit next - most enjoyable!

The panels you've marked for removing are all to do with the train heating boiler - the small rectangular ones above the steps are a blanked off hole for filling the boiler from platform height (and as built the locos had a round hole with a flap for this purpose) , the larger panel by the grille is also adjacent to where the boiler would be located at no 2 end , not entirely sure of it's purpose.

You are a weak man Pugs! tongue.gif biggrin.gif

I look forward to seeing this machine finished.

To be honest if JLTRT were to produce a 56 or 60 I too would succumb!

Thanks for the lowdown on what all those bits are - all now gone :D

Absolutely - there are definitely not enough IC Mainline 37's around, and I'm fairly certain that this is going to be the first one in S7 :D

I'm modelling it in 1991 condition, so it didn't have the Mt Fuji name at that point, but did have a nice Thornaby Kingfisher, despite being allocated to Tinsley :) Nothing to do with the china clay either, I'm afraid - the eventual layout plan is set in the North West (so no 50's either :( ) and I wanted a fairly nondescript example of one of Tinsley's wandering RfD 37's in IC Mainline.

Well, I sort of wish that I'd gone for P4, instead of EM for 4mm scale, so I'm not going to make the same mistake twice - just completely new ones!
