RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted December 18, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 18, 2015 Of course, if you were a Polish "official" and you had good evidence that the train was there and very likely full of gold, you would tell the world that there was nothing there. Wouldn't you? Put all the treasure hunters off the scent and allow for the excavation and extraction with the minimum of fuss and risk of discovery/robbery. There is nothing like a good conspiracy theory so hopefully I can start one going...... Now that it's been officially denied, that confirms it. Derekstuart
The media and conspiracy types are getting awfully worked up over the delay in excavation. However, when you consider the possible International legal issues- what if it is the Amber Room? Who gets the job of telling President Putin that he can't have it back? What if there is lots of jewish gold? Who gets to tell Israel that they can't have it? What if it was a munitions train hidden in a tunnel to avoid a few squadrons of Lancasters? Who wants to find 1,000 tonnes of unstable explosives. What if it is full of chemical or biological agents? The 3rd reich were known to be using death camps in Poland to test all sorts of very nasty stuff on prisoners. That would explain why there are so many Military historians pouring over records. Most worrying for them though is what happens if there's nothing there? What will the 2017 tourist industry be like in Southern Poland?

Horsetan
... what happens if there's nothing there? What will the 2017 tourist industry be like in Southern Poland? Everything will get back to whatever passes for normal.
DavidR
Everything will get back to whatever passes for normal. Krakow will continue to boom, Zakopane will still attract the hoards and Wiswa, Ustron and the like will continue to pull in the Poles. I'm in Katowice at present and the news broadcast gave it 15 secs. tonight. The rest of the world seems to be giving it more publicity than here. The Poles are sceptical about the whole thing. We shall see........
