Responses to requests from RMwebbers for The Wishlist Poll 2015

There were three separate threads for 2014.

Responses to the first (3 February 2014):

#2 Fenman:

Suggested M&GN locos. We have listed one in the LNER Locos category.

#22 Grahame:

Suggested Class 456. Now listed. It was previously deleted due to very low votes.

Responses to the second (28 September 2014):

#2 Edcayton:

Suggested RMweb be included in the list of commissioning bodies. Done.

#12 D9020 Nimbus:

Commented on the N Class 42. Text has been re-written and entries suitably revised (N & 00).

#20 DerekEM8:

Remarked about not being able to print out just what had been voted for. We're sorry, but Andy tells us we can't alter that - but please see Q&A.

#35 MVRnut:

Suggested Adams T3, Adams A12 and Drummond T14. We have listed the T3 but the others are on next year's agenda.

#39 LNWRmodeller:

Suggested more links to kit makers. Done.

#45 James Makin:

Asked if we could list his website (ref N Electrostars). Done.

#47 TomParryHarry:

Asked if we could list Welsh railway coaches. Sorry, we haven't listed them, but they are on next year's agenda.

#66 Bernard Lamb:

Asked if we could list the early Met-Cam DMU (fore-runner of Class 101). Done.

#85 Mark Dickerson:

Asked if we could list Industrial 0-4-0. Done.

#83 Ozexpatriate:

Suggested SDJR Brake Van No.6. Done.

#88 BMacdermott:

John Polley Underground website details added as per PM request from John.

Responses to the third (Results 6 November 2014):

#3 Gwiwer:

Suggested Track Panels. Sorry, but we don't list track (except Turntables).

#42 Padishar Creel:

Noted that Super GUV not listed. Now listed.

#52 JSpencer:

Noted K4 not listed. Now listed.

#54 EastHertsGER:

Requested GER Wagons. Now listed under that generic heading.

#78 Garethashendon:

Suggested NLR Park Tank. Now listed.

#91 Boco_D1:

Suggested M&GN Wagons and LMS Articulated 3-car DMU. Sorry, we haven't listed them but they are on the agenda.

#108 Devo63:

Suggested the three Collett 'Main Line & City' articulated sets. Sorry, we haven't listed them but they are on the agenda.

#111 Ozexpatriate:

Noted inconsistencies with the way items were listed. We have added to each category in The Guide that Diagram Numbers should be taken as 'representative'.

#122 GordonC:

Requested more TPOs. We looked at the matter in depth and there are too many to list separately. However, we have thoroughly re-written the TPO entry and added 'TPO Notes' to explain the complexity. The matter will be kept under review.

#133 Bernard Lamb:

Requested F7. Sorry, but we haven't included it this year, but it is on the agenda.

Summing up:

Please bear in mind that we have suggestions from various other sources and these have to be viewed in context with the above. Another factor is how 'new entries' tend to fare. Excluding Industrial and Underground (which were all new) the 45 listed in 00 were:

29 Low Polling

13 Middle Polling

3 High Polling

For quite a long time now the "cut-off" date for existing models has been 2000— now fifteen years ago. Would it not make more sense to advance this every year? Particularly in N gauge, there are a number of models produced since 2000 which are not up to current standards (particularly, running quality but sometimes appearance too) and it would be useful to indicate demand for improved versions of such items—particularly where the relevant manufacturer is showing no interest (or is no longer active in the market).

Hello D9020 and Karhedron

As you probably know, none of The Team is specifically an N modeller and we rely partly on David Baverstock (NGS Chairman) and partly on Simon Bendall to advise us (the latter on certain categories only). I have looked through the Ramsay Catalogue and can find just the items below that would fall within any new 'cut-off date' of 2001. Can you - or anyone - think of any others?

I'm not in any way saying that the 2001 cut-off will be applied, but if we know what is likely to be added in, it will aid the decision process.

Thanks.

Dapol: GWR Modified Hall (????)

GF by Bachmann: BR Mk3 Stock

Peco: 5-plank China Hoods

Class 11 diesel shunters (12033-138) were the 1944 UK standard design and the GWR (15101-7) were also based on this design with only detail differences, as were SR class 12 (15211-36), the latter having boxpoc wheels. Brian, wouldn't it be a good idea to combine these in the '00' poll as it should be possible to create all varieties from the same basic tooling and thereby cover Midland, Eastern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and War Department locos?

Off the top of my head, the following from Dapol pre-date the supercreep motor.

4800/1400 auto tanks

4500 and 4575 Small Praries

M7

Ivatt 2MT tank

Also the 2251. Although this was produced by Peco it is now discontinued. The model was only available in limited liveries and was produced with a very large tender (in order to fit the DCC chip in). I believe that a 2251 using either the Dapol 3500 gallon Churchward tender drive or the compact Farish coreless motor would be welcome.

Hello D9020 and Karhedron

Dapol: GWR Modified Hall (????)

GF by Bachmann: BR Mk3 Stock

Peco: 5-plank China Hoods

Dapol opted for the original Hall in the end so hopefully a Modified Hall should be in the list as this is definitely not available to modern standards.

Dapol's Mk3 range is pretty good (although not entirely complete) and has pretty much superseded the Bachmann/Farish models. The votes for these are likely to be for specific variants such as alternative buffets which Dapol have indicated are unlikely to be cost effective to tool up.

Farish have released new china hoods to supersede the old Peco ones and these are available from Kernow (and very smart they are too :)).

Speaking for myself, and not as a member of the Poll Team, that idea does make a lot of sense. I'm surprised I haven't thought of that myself ... sometimes the 'obvious' escapes us!! :)

Hello Oz

A voter last year requested that we leave the Industrial list intact and that actually makes sense (so we do). We only list items there 'generically' and this method enables voters to say that they would still like to see other makers' types. As you know, we looked at listing individual makers, but such a list would be vast!

The SHT/P&M Peckett E Class (later GWR/BR) has remained in for this year.

Dear All

A couple of notes before voting starts tomorrow (Monday 26 October)....

If you are looking for BR steam era freight stock, please start looking in the Pre-1948 (inc BR descendants) category first. As the title suggests, we have grouped some items where the BR Diagram is what might be called 'a direct descendant' of a railway company type.

N voters will know that DJM recently announced some vehicles:

Shark (now deleted)

Turbot (now deleted)

LSWR Road Van (now deleted)

Mermaid (had already been deleted)

Bogie Bolster E (was not in the 2014 Poll, but was 'new' for 2015. It has been deleted from N, but remains in 00 only).

Please note that as these were 'last minute deletions', N voters will find 'blank lines' where they used to be within the respective categories.

Dear All

Now that The Wishlist Poll 2015 is 'live', could I ask you to help us publicise it, please? The more voters we get, the better differentiation with the results.

I have attached a mini-poster. If you would kindly print this off and pin it up on your club noticeboard we would be very grateful. Please also forward it to any friends who may be interested.

Thanks for your help!
