Killian keane
It seems to me that 4' gauge railways such as the Redruth and Chasewater railway and the padarn railway are so undermodelled in any scale, which is a pity considering the number of "modelling cliches" about today (the great western branch terminus, the settle and carlisle etc), in 16mm scale, gauge 3 (2.5") track scales out almost exactly to 4' gauge (David Mills of 16mills calls this sm64) 4' gauge prototypes such as miner, smelter and fire queen present us with highly characterful motive power that might otherwise go unmodelled, which would be a tremendous shame, so there we have it, food for thought and something to consider if you are looking to deviate from the norm with your garden line or large scale exhibition layout Cheers I'll leave you with a couple of pictures to fire your inspiration Edited March 30, 2018 by Killian keane
BG John
In 4mm scale, most people use 4ft 1½in gauge, and OO-SF is about 4ft 0½in. The gauge of the prototype lines was probably a bit flexible anyway! It would be great to model 16mm gauge to P4 standards, and confuse everyone . It's actually quite rare to find a model to 4ft 8½in gauge .
chris stockdale
The Padarn is indeed being (modestly) modelled in 16mm scale on Gauge 3 track, but most of what I'm aware of is in the 16mm group on Facebook. Cheers, Chris
Killian keane
Found this masterpiece on the gauge 0 guild, if it doesn't make you want to model the 4' gauge I don't know what will!
MarcD
Lake Padern has always appealed but also the Redruth and Chasewater has an appeal. And with the use of 3D printing its becoming more of a do-able thing for those of us who are more tecky thank crafty. Marc
