They were listed in the Ks catalgoue, though these days they are in the GEM range.

Hi folks,

as an aside, the K's Southwold body kit has a bit of a history. Even though advertised for 4mm scale, when we in the 5.5mm Association got hold of one, it tuned out to be a mixture of scales depending on which bit you were looking at.

It's not 5.5mm scale - as shown by the comparison to a scale drawing.

What it is (nearly) is a Manx Northern Railway sharpie (see pic of kit compared to the drawing), and someone on the Yahoo 00n3 group built it as just that.

It's now available from Malcolm Savage (MSM) models. Purchasers have made a variety of versions from 2-4-0s to 0-6-0s, and many moons ago someone in MRC made an 0-4-0 in 16.5mm gauge.

Hope this isn't too much of a digression from the subject..

Regards,

David.

I've got the contractor's wagon, but it lacks the solebars. It came fitted on an N gauge tipping wagon underframe* (Jouef/Playcraft?) and a point and straight rail. I'm sure it's safe to assume they don't cost 1/5½d any more. (That would be around a pound in today's devalued currency.)

I got one in similar condition in an odd lot of stuff. The body had been soldered too. It's actually quite nicely detailed. To cut down the weight I chopped up an old lima BR style N gauge wagon chassis and made new plastic solebars, detailed with rivets salvaged off another Lima bogie wagon body (possibly a US design).

I then bought another three or four or complete unmade kits off the 009 Sales stand at their 45th Anniversary do in 2013 for £1 each! I was going to use the chassis sides as bolster wagons and rechassis the bodies as for the first one. Hopefully that way both wagons made from the kit will be a reasonable overall weight (the bolsers not too light, the opens not too heavy).
