"Remember Me" not working

Recommended Posts

My computer no longer remembers me when I call up the site, so I have to log in every time even though the "remember me" box is ticked. This also happens with every other site that has the same system. It used to work fine but has only started to not work in the last few days. Thought it might have been a Windows update but there hasn't been one. Happens with Internet Explorer 11 and also Microsoft Edge. Anyone help, cos' it is a nuisance to have to log in every time and try to remember all the different passwords!

Check your cookies settings.  Plenty of websites remember you by storing a cookie file on your computer.

I have to say though that I'd much rather log in every time than have cookies hanging around collecting data and I have my browser set to delete them every time I close it.

I use Cookie auto delete which allows you to keep sites you want for instant log ins and automatically scrubs any others.

It's usual if you want to delete cookies, either at close of browser (automatically), or manually anytime, that a list of different categories will be shown and you choose whether to delete all or just those you select.

EDIT

Firefox for instance has this menu under "Privacy & Security":

Well, I have tried to check my cookie settings but it appears that I have it already set to accept cookies from both first and third parties, so this has not solved the problem - I am getting increasingly irritated by this, having to sign in to RMWeb and other sites and also to Google to get youtube to work properly, all have different usernames and passwords and apart from the usual ones I can't remember them all! Why has this just started happening? Is it something to do with the daft GDPR things that have just come out? Have site altered their methods? Has my software been updated (or tampered with)?

You might be accepting them, but what about deletion(or not)  at shutdown?

If they all get deleted on shutdown all settings are lost, including log-ins.

And I think an automatic deletion of browsing history will also kill the passwords.

That shouldn't do it as in Firefox (at least), AFAIK just the places visited get the chop, not the log-ins to them. If you set it correctly

You have a choice:

EDIT

Scrub that

Firefox deletes everything and active log-ins are lost even if you un-tick them!

I've being playing around with Firefox and I cannot find a way of keeping logins whilst clearing history.

I was confused by active logins, assuming them to be what you use when logging in to RMWeb etc. but it seems they are something else.

There is no option as far as I can see to keep logins in a "whitelist" or suchlike.

Finally seemed to have fixed it, there is an option in Tool, Internet Options, Advanced to reset all selections back to default including all personal setttings. While this seems a bit drastic, it was annoying me so much I just went and did it and Hey Presto everything seems back to normal. (I hope!)
