Rescued from the tip - old loco models

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, perhaps the Pugbash thread would be more appropriate?

Anyway, a short while ago I was lucky enough to be given, via our local 'Trash Nothing' website, a couple of boxes of aviation, military vehicle, and railway models which were destined to be skipped.  I don't know any background to them, and have only just started sorting through them. Everything was just dumped in the boxes and has suffered accordingly, the WW1 planes particularly so.

Here are some pics of the most intact of the static loco models, not sure of the identification, and the Triang standard track came with the boxes.

These seem to be works in progress, no idea on the one the left with the extension behind the cab, and the cab profile of the one on the right seems familiar, GNR N1 perhaps, or maybe a Fowler?

Another work in progress, a GWR Pannier I think, the only one on metal wheels.

Still more in the boxes, but I would welcome any identification of the prototypes of the above models.

Many thanks

The one on the right of the third picture looks like it is on the way to becoming a Lambton 0-6-2 tank.

Pic shows no.29 on the last day of steam at Philadelphia, 15th Feb 199.

The light green one could be an attempt at one of Walkden's WD saddletanks with extended bunkers.

Moving further away from industrial models, I have now sorted the rest of the box, and together with some Standard Triang track ( R106 x8, R96 x6, R93 x3, R107x 1, R102 x1), this is what is left.

Top left seems to be a Triang? Albert Hall body with the nameplate removed, second from bottom on the left is an Airfix Schools class I think.  Not sure if I have matched the correct tenders to the second left and bottom left locos.

Top right is a battered Triang coach, underneath that a wheelless tender body, and three scratchbuilt tender bodies, on the bottom right cab  and jib from the Airfix Booth Rodley crane kit I think.

Motor bogie less wheels and pinion, and wagon underframe, perhaps from a tank wagon.

Green tender engine is a conversion of an Airfix Prairie and City of Truro into a GWR 43xx 2-6-0 - there were a number of such projects on the Model Railway press in the 60s, think it was a chap called Mike Bryant wrote the articles. Nice snapshot of 60s modelling. I feel the need to dig out some of my Kitmasters again...
