royaloak
I am on a 1430 start that day, I wonder if my friend would give me his 1645 start? I should be able to get down for at least one trip but hopefully can make it more of a day out, been short on 50 fun for a while.

RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted July 13, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2013 Due to the very high temperatures and resulting dry conditions we are currently experiencing the Watercress Line will suspend steam services and run heritage diesels only this weekend, 13th and 14th July. This applies to the daytime services and to the RAT and dining trains this weekend. We apologise for the disappointment this may cause but feel the decision is necessary given the increased fire risk at this time. The heritage diesels will be running to the same standard 2 loco timetable. Morning all, Above has been lifted from the WNXX forum, and all services being worked by the Class 50 and the Hampshire unit this weekend! http://www.watercressline.co.uk/product.php?xProd=13 Link to timetable. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted July 26, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 26, 2013 Regarding this weekend. 50 will run from Alresford, Hammy from Alton. As an extra special treat (for those that like this sort of thing) 08 377 is currently rostered to work the Belle on Saturday evening. I believe it will only be as far as Ropley to stay out of the way of the 50 which will be on the RAT Above copied from WNXX looks like a mini diesel gala with Gronk haulage! They must all be doing a rain dance down Ropley way by now!

RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted July 26, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 26, 2013 At the moment it would be easier to list the dates when it's not running...... You're right, that's why I'll be down tomorrow to hopefully play a small part in trying to get 37905 fit to go! Lion could do with a breather! RMweb Gold PhilH Posted July 26, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 26, 2013 A bit fed up with it to be honest - I've been a volunteer in the MHR loco dept for 27 years, never had a prolonged steam ban like this. Most of the locos have ashpan sprays and spark arrestors now, the lineside is tidy, can't quite see what's different from other dry years. Lazy option in my opinion. royaloak
Have you seen how many (thankfully small) lineside fires there have been on the line, there must be about a dozen (I havent actually counted them) areas which have burned back. Lets not forget there are a lot of fields beside the railway with their crops in full flight, its just being decent to help protect the crops of your neighbours. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted September 30, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2013 Evening all, I have changed the thread title to be more inclusive of all the diesels at the MidHants Railway now that there is more than one loco that works! Next Sunday's planned running day (October 13th) for Lion has been altered slightly at the suggestion of '27s owner to include a run out for both the 'Slugs'. The likely result is that 50027 will make one round trip followed by two trips using 37901 & 37905 either TnT or doubleheaded (still to be decided). There have been many requests for a running day for the 37s and as Lion has covered over 3000 miles this year already, this is probably the best and possibly the only way to facilitate these requests this year. 50027 has recently had new brushes fitted and a clean up/repaint of the main generator. 37905 has had all its tanks re-certified as well as other repairs and is fit to run again. 37901 I believe has some minor fuel leaks that will be cured soon, but is fit to run. All being well the 37s will cover this year's Santa Specials with Lion only as backup giving the 50 a well earned rest to allow some TLC after a hard year! mike knowles
with Lion only as backup giving the 50 a well earned rest to allow some TLC after a hard year! Contrasts somewhat with it's time at the NYMR Hope to get down there next year and see it running, plus two slugs - magic. Keep up the good work. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted October 4, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2013 Evening all, The following lifted from WNXX site as posted by Lion's owner. The plan as it stands for Sunday 13th October will be as follows:50027 will work the 10:50 from Alton to Alresford and the 11:45 Alresford to Alton. At Ropley at 11:55 37901 will attach to the rear.37901 will work the 12:50 Alton to Alresford (with 50027 on the rear as far as Ropley, which goes to shed), upon arrival at Alresford 37901 will remain on the country end of the train.37905 (Which will already be at Alresford), will attach to the London end of the train and work the 13:45 Alresford to Alton with 37901 on the rear.Upon arrival at Alton 37905 will run round and attach to the front of 37901 for the 14:50 Alton to Alresford.37901 will lead 37905 (still as a pair) on the return 15:45 Alresford to Alton. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted January 13, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 13, 2014 There has been agreed a program of Diesel running days on the Mid Hants Railway for 2014, which will operate in addition to the 2014 printed timetables. The good news is that there will be a booked Diesel Loco hauled service once a month from April to October . The dates for your diary are as follows: April 26th (Class 50) May 10th (Class 37) June 8th (Class 50) July 12th (Class 37) August 23rd (Class 50) September 21st (Class 37) October 5th (Class 50 + 37) This is in addition to the Diesel Gala on 5th - 7th September and the Hampshire Unit running days. All services are subject to the usual availability issues, but it is a great opportunity to build on from last years efforts . The services will generally be two return trips from Alresford, and details and loco allocations will be published in due course. Please come along and support us if you can.
