winterbournecm
I was on holiday around Watchet this week and noticed D1661 glide past Blue Anchor bound for Minehead. The Signalman mentioned its return working with the demonstration freight later that afternoon. So I headed off to my hillside shot to capture North Star heading back. She looked a treat with the vintage wagons, two tone green and no HV vests on view. Please feel free to post any images of North Star from years gone by.
BrushVeteran
Here's one I have of it at Paddington in 1968, not a brilliant shot but all I have pre-TOPS I think. I will start looking as there are several I haven't scanned yet.
Rivercider
Here is one from 1981 47077 North Star arrives at Hallen Marsh with 7B26 a mid morning departure from Severn Tunnel Junction, the traffic is mostly coke for Commonwealth Smelting, probably from either Cwm or Nantgarw. There is also a dicharged sulphuric acid tank in the train, 5/2/81 cheers

Rugd1022
Good old North Star seen at (equally good old!) Reading in 2007, the last time I saw it in mainline service...

Pyewipe Jct
I have a few shots of 'North Star' on the day it was handed over to the D&EPG by Porterbrook - 28th May 2007 - having hauled the 1Z47 Derby-Minehead excursion (with 47828). And yes, it was absolutely peeing it down - but we always could pick just the right time to go on holiday...!: I also have a couple taken in 2009:
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted August 13, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 13, 2017 I stumbled across this old thread as I was looking for more information on D1661. Mrs Dreyfus and I had a day-trip down to Minehead yesterday, travelling from Paddington to Bishops Lydeard behind 'Union of South Africa'. Sadly, as the A4 was too heavy for the turntable at Minehead, it needed to be turned on the triangle, so was detached and swapped for a WSR loco. It turned out that most of the train has vacuum brakes, but a single air braked coach in the rake meant that none of the WSR steam locos could haul it. The saviour of the day? D1661...

RMweb Gold russ p Posted September 9, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) Pet hate inappropriate headlight on a preserved locomotive! Great paint job but shame it hasn't had the skirting refitted to the buffer beam Many years ago when I was involved with the North Norfolk railway the railway bought 5207 from a private owner who had fitted bloody headlamps immediately the cheque cleared I removed them and smashed them to prevent any other idiot who is scared of the dark from fitting them to something else. If you can't drive at 25mph in the dark you really shouldn't be driving at all! Edited September 9, 2017 by russ p

Best stay away from 25059 at the KWVR then, it has had new LED marker lights fitted, they look somewhat out of keeping....

WHY??? What idiot did that ,its hardly saving them massive amounts of money on bulbs the thing most only get used every couple of weeks. Its like loads of preserved DMUs have headlights and red bulbs in the markers when in green which looks ridiculous. I don't have a lot of time for preservation these days. It can't possibly be blowing bulbs all the time! An even if that was the case why not it an led bulb within the old lamp unit not ruin the look of the loco
