Great Yarmouth signals, rodding and infrastructure, with some Acle / Cantley

Yes, there's some great manual signalling details there still, only spoiled by the modern safety rails around the ladders etc on some of the signals.

Ian

I think thats a new signal, rather than an "upgraded" old one

Images like this are always useful.  Never waste an opportunity.  I did a similar thing last weekend when passing Brundall.  You never know when things will change.

More please.  Shame you didn't visit Waddon Marsh in the 1960's

Not that old I'm afraid and I lived in the North West until 2011. I have done Reedham, Acle and Brundal though

Cantley - I was passing through, by mistake, so I just snapped the one shot.

Acle - I took up the perch on the road bridge, I didn't go to the station so these shots are all from the bridge

Note the gap in the opposite platform, to allow for various cranks.

And to show I photograph modern stuff - it's important to never assume things will be there forever, blink and they've changed, blink again and they've gone. Photograph everything, even if you don't like it, don't record today, lament tomorrow.

TB4R -  a repeater for TB4. Controlled by Trowse Swing Bridge this signal is acting as the up distant for Whitlingham Junction, into use in 2000 when the area was resignalled.

THanks for posting those up. Did i see a locking bar in that lot?

No but there are four electric depression bars in the four platforms. I'll have to see if i can find out what they do. They could indicate separately or interrupt the track circuit feed.

Don't know how I missed this one 4 years ago, thanks for sharing. Recently seen the announcement that Yarmouth is to be resignalled and is losing platform 1 so had planned to try and get over there before the changes and photo the 'old' track layout.

LNERGE is over there in a couple of weeks when the work starts so be quick.

Does anyone know when the intermediate block signal between Acle and Yarmouth or most probably Breydon in the down direction went?

Also when did the box close at Berney arms went?

BA - Closed and moved to the pub for use as a storeroom by 1964 - presumed closed early 1960s

IBS went when Breydon was abolished in the early 1970s according to a discussion on the Signal Box forum.

Thanks for that Dave,I hadn't realised BA went so early.

A friend who passed away quite recently told be Breydon closed in 1978 but the IBs had gone before.Interestingly the track circuits are still there for them

I had no idea there was a four aspect signal there, was there one on the Reedham line too?
