Halling mechanisms
As I said in the previous entry, I've pretty much decided to swap over to Halling mechanisms and derivatives for mechanisms, I find them far superior to anything else I've used, for the uninitiated they come in various sizes and combinations one in particular allows you to unclip a base plate and just reposition one or both axles in slots to increase the wheelbase from about 24mm to 27 and then 30mm. There are also 34mm and 41mm units which are ideal for the Horsfields and pivotals. Bec and ABS truck selling spree coming on!
Also newly available is rtr bogie tram drive unit from PC Trams, this uses Halling parts, namely the bogies motor and drive shaft mounted into what looks like a resin baseplate, running is spot on, much in line with straight Halling mechsand to be honest at ??39 ish compares well with a pair of bec equal wheel trucks. I'd still like to see if I can mount a small flywheel on the motor (5 pole Halling job). Id have thought this unit would be ideal for O-16.5 railbuses and other such things, it's much smaller than underground ernie mechs having it's bogie centres at about 45mm and 21mm wheelbase bogies.
Anyway mines found it's way under my nearly finished HR2 as seen below built from various plastic bits, needs glazing, stairs and trucksides yet.
