More on Halling mechanisms

The re motor begins, I've just received a parcel of Halling mechanisms, to be honest these don't seem to be that widely known (well I didn't know how good they were until recently!) so thought I'd stick a picture up, I'm sure they could have many other uses. Shown are 3 vario units, the base plates on these unclip and you can move one or either axle to alter the wheelbase from about 24 to 27 and 30mm and replacement wheel sets are available for HOe or HOm! The bigger units are 35 and 41mm respectively I think there is also a 54mm unit, running of them is superb, one of the things thrown at tramway modelling is the on/off style, stop start running (sometimes automatic I appreciate) but not with these slow speed control is fantastic and hopefully Grime Street will feature a bit more prototypical running ( oh and they don't sound like the Bec/ABS ones either).

Also shown is Rail grinder 1, another works car, shown in grey primer, this one was seen on RMweb3 ages ago, well, nearly but not quite, I'd built it but wasn't happy with the ends, so re did it with new driving vestibules, but then wasn't happy with the original sides, so rebuilt it with new sides, so it's a bit like Triggers brush! Going to be finished in all over beige with a red stripe, that's one thing about Leeds trams on the 40s/50s they had plenty of variation in livery, works trams being either beige, grey or red, passenger cars being either dark blue, light blue, wartime kahki or later red!

Currently progressing through the workshop are various cars, 2 Pivotals (scratch), 1 Pilcher (Chris Cornell etched kit), Tower Car1 (bashed E1 kit/scratch), Middleton Bogie (Scratch using some Anbrico Roberts parts) and a convert car (EFE Horsfield Conversion, bottom half done like the pivotal conversion, top half using the lower windows of another Horsfield), Works Car 8a (Box on wheels no vestibules, dead easy!)

Also starting shortly will be the extension to Grime Street, the line out to the football ground, this may get entered in the 2010 comp, but it's likely to feature Easy Street track from the Proto87 store.
