Dirty Diesels...

Recently been working a on a couple of regauged (to EM) diesels.

Both have been fitted with Legomanbiffo sound chips (a simple plug in with some metal bashing mods for the speakers to fit..)

The locos are not to be filthy just a little bit dirty..

first up the Type 2 (Class 25)

with a bit of extra diesel exhaust crud on the roof...

and then a Type 4 (Class 40)

Beautiful weathering!  Totally realistic patina and streaking.  What's your method?

Really, really nice work.

Sorry for  the slow reply Mike.. been out an about today.

The basic techniques use a rotring black ink/water wash from the top of the vehicle down, then a brown ink/water wash up the vehicle . I make use of good quality colour photos of the locos being weathered to do highlights etc,

When the ink is dry I use weathering powder to give the dirt effects.

The oil around exhausts etc is done by applying the powder to the ink while still wet and then !pulling" the mix to show the wind streaking

More details are in my thread

best regards
