Ode to the movie

Job's Modelling

Progress on the arches is going slowly. But I make progress.

There were some other things I had to do for Station Road.

For instance the movie poster on the side wall of the yard.

By accident I came along this ODEON board

This one is more 1940’s than the end of the 1950’s.

So I started for a search for correct time based movie posters.

I selected the following:

With Publisher I created my own 1959 ODEON announcement board.

Then I saved it as a picture and re-sized the picture in Word using the height of the stones as a reference.

Now I can use the board by cutting it out. Then glue it on thin card colouring the edges grey.

I’m also working on my Northall story.

I have changed a lot of street names. And did number them by street.

The yellow dots are meant as a guideline for me to create my story.

The dark blue dots are diorama’s already built or under construction.

The light blue are diorama’s that I hope to build in the future.

This is not the final version of the map. I have to change some points in the map writing the story.

As always: information and comments are much appreciated.

Next time I hope to publish the finished arches.

Kind regards,

Job

Job,

As always thought provoking modelling , especially the choice of movies! Checking up on these, only one of which I had seen, I then googled 1959 films, and found  some classics, including Ben Hur. Is there some background reasoning for the choice, connected to the setting of Northall? Or is it just a personal choice. Usually layouts with movie posters always show blockbusters and try to include a Bond film.(probably predictable and I would do the same)  This selection was definitely left field and very interesting.

Terry thanks for the reply.

I only choose British movies. The choice of Serious Charge has to do with the Northall story. In this movie Cliff Richard sings some of his 1959 hits including Living Doll. This in connection with the record shop and the two teenagers on Station Road.

The other three are selected for other reasons: a movie based on a theatrical play, a thriller ( one of my favourite movie genres) and the mystery movie because of the colour of the poster.

When I want to add this kind of features to my diorama

Hi Job. Another very nice idea, I hope all the detail will come out nice when it is printed. I can't remember if you have told us what kind of printer you are using?

"No trees in the street" seems like a very strange title for a thriller! :-)

For printing not only the printer is essential but also the used printing material. I use an HP photosmart and the texture will be printed on Innova digital fine art paper 280 gr using the best quality of the printer.

The film chronicles Tommy's sordid progression from minor thefts to murder.

Doesn't exactly sound like a happy ending!

Thanks for the info on the printer. Every time I look at a printer I get put off by the cost of the goods ones. But with your results it is clearly a good investment. Plus, there are thousands of digital family photos we never see becsause they are just sitting on the hard drive. It would be nice to print them, so there's another good argument when I have to discuss a new printer with my wife :-)

The dark and sombre mood expressed on your film posters is interesting. But then I just tried googling "2014 movie posters" and most of those are even darker!
