Sproston - signalbox progress
Hello again, well the weather has become more reasonable for modelling, so I decided to make an attempt at advancing the construction of Sproston's signalbox.
This has been sitting partly madeup on my little workbench/ folding picnic table for some time, and after reading through the many posts on RMweb of RSLR (Reece), I have been galvanised into action...adding the courses of engineers blue brick around windows, doors and on the edges of the structure, adding the glazing and painting the rest.
I originally wanted to have the operating floor door open, but it is moulded as one piece, and I baulked at cutting it out, as the doorframe is so very fine.
Have now reached the stage of being ready to paint the upper framework around the windows and the guttering/facia.
I am however still short of a couple of important internal details, namely a whitemetal casting of a WR key-token machine,(or a single line electric train staff instrument.) along with the cupboard it sits on, the signalmans armchair, and possibly another cupboard for the box.
I do not think it wise to continue much further with construction, until I can source said items...
Unfortunately the Wills ssam 103 kit I used had its casting for the all important chair missing- and it also does not contain a token machine (reading through Reece's posts, I see that he used the Springside internal detail kit, which is for a larger box but does contain all these items - and even an electric train staff instrument to boot!!) - This was clearly a false economy on my part!!
To buy a complete new detailing kit seems rather o.t.t ... The box is already almost finished internally, It does not appear to be possible to buy the required parts individually....
So being an old skinflint...., I wondered if any kind folk on RMweb who have bought the Springside kit, but maybe have no need for either a WR electric token instrument on its cupboard - or an electric train staff instrument( or even the armchair!!) in their signalbox might be prepared to pass it my way where they will be correctly painted and given a good home...I will obviously pay postage, etc.
Still have the roof to deal with, along with the Staircase and all the final small details. I hope to add internal led lighting (eventually), so it has to be made removable.
I was wondering what other folk used for the signalbox nameboard lettering?? (Slaters lettering??
I assume that the correct BR (WR) title on it would be: "SPROSTON STATION SIGNALBOX"
Would appreciate any guidance on this matter.
Thanks
Regards
