Backscene painting - nearly done

Here's most of the complete backscene in a more or less finished condition, and this time under proper layout lighting. I waited until now to put back the lighting beam as it severely restricts access to certain areas of the module, and I wanted to get the fiddly stuff done first. However, it's not too hard to remove it if needed. Compared to the previous shots, I did some more toning-down with white washes, as well as starting to add some transitional details. Now that the lighting's in place, too, I can get a feel for which way the shadows are falling (if at all) on the foreground elements.

This is a slightly higher viewing angle than the usual, my normal eye-level being roughly in line with the trackwork, unless I'm standing on a footstool.

The King is my usual old-stager, being the Lima body on a Comet chassis, and the coaches are slightly weathered Hornby Hawksworths.

My first thought was fabulous, so I'll type it here - Fabulous!  Foreground, fields, sky, the lot.

Great job, love the wooded hillside detail at centre skyline, and variety in middle distance hedgerows. A perfect shadowless scene.

Thanks all, I'm glad that it's gone down well. I don't know about the rest of you, but my train room tends to get very cluttered during major rebuilding work, with tools everywhere, bits of track, wires, switches, polystyrene bobbles, scenic clumps, all lying around on the floor - and gradually getting transported into the rest of the house! It's been quite a relief to start tidying up everything today, with the fascia back in place, and the layout room returning to some sort of order.

As mentioned a while back, this is all part of a grand plan to double-track the entire layout but I'll give it a while before tackling the winter module.

Hi Al,

Cluttered railway room? Unthinkable! :-) I know what you mean about clearing up the mess, it can be very satisfactory. Gives a sense of control in the chaotic process that is modelling...

The backscene is brilliant, I think. The curved  3D effect created by the dip in the center is really clever stuff.
