Now with added backscene

Hello :)

I am very very happy. With thanks to Ron North of the High Wycombe Model Railway Club who has done fantastic work on the backscene for Highclere. Its something that I would never be able to come close to and although I no doubt will get some stick for not attempting it myself, I just wanted the best for Highclere and Ron has definately done that for me.

Hi Missy

Where is the rule that you must do everything yourself? I dont see a problem with that at all. If you were trying to palm off Ron's work as your own that would be different but you aint!

Cheers

I agree with Jim.

Ron has done a great job, but all credit to you for supplying the excellent layout in the foreground.

The two work in perfect harmony!

Now that is very nice. Certainly adding real depth to the scene even with things incomplete. I see absolutely no problem calling in an expert on occasions especially if it adds to the layout as much as that. :)

That is a tremendous backscene, but it is your work on the landscaping that makes it look right. I especially like the patches of bare ground in between the grass in the first and second photos - absolutely brilliant!

That really is a nice backscene with plenty of apparent depth. I was wondering what it was that worked well on your cutting sides, then I read Mikkel's comment above. Yes, the bare ground or thin grass gives a really parched summery feel. I think all too often we smother things in long grass without really following the variations that can be seen in real situations.

Will you be adding a couple of trees to mask the hole where the track disappears into the backscene?

No stick but kudos to you!!

Your layout truly deserves a great backscene!

I actually thought that was the back end of a train underneath the bridge when I first saw the cutout in the backscene!:icon_thumbsup2:

Hello :)

Thank you guys. I couldnt resist posting something about it as it just looks fantastic and has really given me enthusiasm to carry on. Unfortunately though I really want to carry on with the scenics right now but I must crack on with trying to get the electrics sorted as nothing has run on the layout still! There is alot of work still left to do with wiring it and no doubt plenty of headaches to come with it too.

The aim is to get it to the 2mm Expo in July as its looking to be a fantastic exhibition with 20+ 2mmFS layouts planned to come but what state it will be in is another matter....

Stunning cool.gif

Out of interest, do you know type of paints/techniques Ron used? The semi-transparent nature of the clouds is spot on.

Looking forward to seeing this at the Expo!
