Castle renumbering: Spitfire pt4

The Fatadder

Spitfire is now (finally) finished, I had real problems with the HMRS transfers not sticking. Eventually after a couple of failed attempts at using varnish to stick them down, I removed the problem transfers and replaced with a new set.

While I was at it I also got on with the final major job, eliminating the green solebar from the former BR 4000gl tender, which was touched in with some Vlajio weathered black paint.

I still havent actually tested the DCC installation, but its posed here crossing the Avon with a Penzance - Paddington express

Did you manage to keep the lining on the nameplate plinth Rich ?

All lining was kept,

I included a full set of photos of the process on one of my King renumbers (6000 if i remember rightly).  Cutting the plinth off the Model Master name plate with a Stanley knife and carefully filing until the bottom curve is fully cleaned up (taking care to go around the Castle Class plate).  The new plate is then a direct overlay to the original, i believe on Spitfire I did make more of an effort than normal to thin the bevel around the edge of the original name.

I do still have another castle (ex Wellington) on which i do need to reline the plinth (to get rid of the "Castle Class" printing.  a job that I am really not looking forward to!
