The Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway was Ireland’s most northern Railway line. It began in Londonderry and terminated at Carndonagh passing through many small stations on the way. I have chosen this as my layout, more specificity Carndonagh and Fahan. If anyone knows where to get trackplans please PM me right away. Baseboard construction is underway as is initial research. I’m only 13 but I do my best.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this. Courageous at 13 to take on a project which will need a lot of kitbuilding and scratchbuilding. Which scale/gauge combination are you planning to use?

I guess that Ordnance Survey produced maps of Ireland before partition. So they may be available through the National Library of Scotland site. But there will certainly be some Irish source available as well.

Unfortunately the Cardonagh branch is the least photographed, certainly beyond Buncrana, and least documented section of the L&LSR, probably because it was not a commercial success and not much visited. Good luck with your research.

Thank you all for the kind words. I’m using the Donegal Railway Restoration Society and it’s in 00. Yes, I know it was narrow gauge but I don’t want to replace my entire collection. I will definitely look at that book, it seems perfect. Thanks!
