Mk2F DBSO Conversion

I wanted to do a fleet of these DBSOs - modelling the differences in the prototypes as they run today. I was somewhat phased by the amount of work involved in doing the conversions but, I thought, printing all the parts so that they would go together pretty cleanly using existing moulded shut lines would make things easier.

I created kits of parts for each variant:

  • 9701/9714 in Network Rail with generator and the UV lamp front brackets
  • 9702/9703 with the wider centre window and no generator
  • 9708 in Network Rail with generator and the UV lamp front brackets
  • 9707 (and the rest of the DRS fleet) with the different light layout to the NR versions
  • 9711 (and the other Anglia/Intercity variants)

I designed the cab to be a one piece replacement and the additional separate details to convert the coaches (shrk fin aerials, extra rovac vents, new cab vent, fuel tanks, air reservoirs....) and the snowplough with buffer beam detail moulded in to fit a NEM pocket.

Just ordered an executive DBSO (Bachmann) change the front, warning yellow and change the red stripe to blue. So anyway I'm interested in a Scotrail/DRS front if possible. Another thing, what did you use for Executive light grey? I really need to sort out these oxford rail mk3s! Looking excellent by the way! Executive light grey, really is a minefield between manufacturers.

Well, that ws one of those errors you make when you're rushing! I knew the clusters were lower but forgot to drop them when I modified my model. Here we go with the new version:

The good news is I think I can just cut the printed end off and graft the new one on. If I test fit and then paint and glaze on the bench then it should just be a case of a bit of fill and a yellow touch up on the join. I may just have to extend an LED wire to get them to fit again.

I will probably lose some of the blue/white lining when I mask but it should be fine....I was thinking that my yellow end needs to go back a bit further along the side anyway. I was also slightly unhappy with how I prepared the end for painting - some print lines were still showing!!

I really need to keep up! Didn't like to say. Wish it was that easy, would have just removed the high intensity light. Excellent work. Like I say, got 47712 and 5 Executive Oxfordrail mk3s and DBSO on way. My HST set has gone on the backburner since seeing this set. Also good to hear the set will be visiting the SVR gala in may.

I used Lifecolor Executive Grey- they are brilliant for an airbrush. I used Vallejo Air black too, same reason. I only got 4 of the Oxfordrail - in Scotrail: 2 FO and 2 TSO. Just got to get around to renumbering and a little mod to one of the TSOs to make it a TSOB?

I hope to print the revised front over the weekend so will see how that turns out!

Looking impressive. My biggest issue at the moment is the elusive "Intercity Executive Light Grey" I dont know if you know anyone who knows a pantone/Ral/BS paint code for an aerosol? Someone had suggested Pantone 452 on a thread, but far too light to the Bachmann 47.

Any help appreciated.

Now that looks Awesome! Your print has certainly captured the front end of 9707 well! The fine wire on the RCH Cables too! Excellent job 😊👍

I need to paint in a clean room to cut out the dust! I also wish I had a steadier had to paint in the black detail!!

Here we are, back to where it was but with detail on the front end. I have alarm panels to fit and the rest of the decals and then buffer beam. All lighting working nicely….

I just need to find or make some of the ETH connections for the buffer beam. Then some work on the coaches...., but, that'll be a different thread!

I have a spare mk2f Bachmann detail pack if any good?
