Paynestown - station end

A few pics showing some of the development at the station end of the layout. The road curves steeply uphill - the idea here is that there would be a gentler approach "off scene". Steep roads aren't uncommon around here, though.

There is an area to the right of the bridge which will eventually contain another building, but for now it will be developed into a patch of fenced-off wasteland.

Overall view with the fiddleyard board in place, as yet trackless. This is slightly longer than the other two boards, in order to accommodate a three-car DMU of the 116/117 length. Having operated Bawdsey over the weekend, which includes scenery on the fiddleyard board, I am starting to think about something along those lines as well.

One annoyance is that when I dismantled my old layout, I carefully removed all sorts of small scenic details such as advertising hoardings, pillar boxes, figures and so on. But I can't find the box they're in, and I doubt that I will before the weekend. Never mind, after the initial rush this will settle down to being another long-term project.

Looking really good. Really liked Cogirep and this looks like it's continuing in the spirit of industrially-influenced, slightly worn-down layouts. Looking forward to seeing it at L&B over the weekend.

Saw it at L & B show today - as I said to you I really enjoyed the layout.

Nice to have met you:D

Good to meet both of you today! After the first hour I was ready to order a skip for the layout, but it did settle down a bit as the day went on. As I may have mentioned, by the time I'd set it up and people were around, I realised that I'd used the wrong trestle on a critical join - Wickes and Aldi trestles look the same, but aren't quite! There was an unsightly baseboard gap and derailment issues with some of the stock crossing the join.

Tomorrow I will take it down, shuffle the trestles and re-assemble - hopefully that will cure matters. I will also be running BR stock tomorrow, as a contrast to today's GWR stuff.

Much better day - the trestle swap worked, the stock mostly performed well, with only a slight misalignment issue causing occasional problems for the prairie. And the layout has a provisional booking for 2011!

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing this - real sense of place about the layout which I liked - it couldn't be anywhere other than the South Wales valleys. Good to meet you too and thanks for running the Taff Vale Class A. Did you go for the Dean Goods afterwards?

Glad you enjoyed the layout, Bad Rabbit - nice to chat as well. No, I didn't go for the Deano - contented myself with a couple more 12T vans, remarkably restrained by my standards.

Very nice Barry. I can see the track plan being transported to seafront Cornwall, with the station set above the promenade on a wall / cliff... got me thinking

Cheers!

I've done very little to it since June other than begin to add some cosmetic point rodding, which is both fiddly and mind-numbingly tedious. I don't think it will go out again until next spring/summer so there is no great rush to get things done.

Hi BT. Well I keep returning here, I've said it before but there is something about this design that is really ingenious. And I can't get over how fast you've built it!

I hope you find the box with the detail items, I know how frustrating that can be - I spent an hour yesterday looking for my toolbox!
