A few things on the go..............

Despite being quiet on updating this blog I have been fiddling with a few modelling projects, including making a 2001: moon bus plastic kit, and have a few railway things on the go......

The coaling tower is complete and I now need to decide what to do with it. Keep it, sell it...... umm, err,

I've acquired some etched bits from Shawplan for the class 50 upgrade so a little work has been done on that. But I now realise that I need a new chassis as I can't find the original and have been trying to bid for a suitable one on ebay. If I can't get one there at an acceptable price then perhaps I can pick up a bargain at TINGS.

I've been doing some research for the London Bridge project and have found some superb aeriel photos. However, this has been taking up quite a bit of time.

I've also been considering putting together a blue mixed van 1970s/80s type parcels/newspaper train rake and have repainted a Dapol CCT I had in to BR blue. The collection is looking pretty motley but I've read almost any van-thing goes;

Hi Grahame,

Lovely rake of NPCCS stock there, really looks the part in BR blue.

What's this I read about Shawplan class 50 bits? Is this some new parts? Interesting...

The two GUV's at the back look to be of differing proportions - are they both Bachfar or have you changed the bogies or something?

I made a GUV 20 years ago by cutting and splicing 2 Lima CCT's together but thankfully both Bachfar and Dapol helped consign this to the skip...the 2FS CCT kit is another option but I think it will disappear soon according to another blog on this forum.

Agreed - a nice looking rake of vans there - perhaps a BG in the mix too?

Have you sourced any transfers for the Dapol CCT?

I've repainted one in BR Blue too, but the ones I ordered from the NGS were yellow text, rather than the correct white and I've not been able to source any others. So this is on hold until I either make my own (I'm still experimenting on a BR Blue Fruit D) or I do actually find a vendor.

Cheers for the comments. Now I'm back from the lunchtime pub session I'll try and quickly answer the queries;

I'm not aware that the Shawplan etches are new - just what they had available for a N/2mm class 50; cab windscreen frames, headcode box fronts, buffer beam steps, and windscreen wipers.

The panelled example is a Gresley full brake which is available as a kit from the NGS.

The GUVs are both Farish - they look out of sorts due to me rushing to set up the photo (before going to the pub) and not having them siting exactly flat and in line - they're not on track. And, yep, I've got a couple of mk1 BGs, upgraded similarly to the GUVs with Ultima underframes, etc., but they're in blue/grey livery.

I couldn't find any suitable transfers but there's not much required and they're very small. I thought I might get away with a bit of white paint/ink carefully hand scribbed on.

Very nice Graham, I fancy a Gresley myself, although it dates it more into the 70's than 80's. I'll have to dig out my old RCTS coaching stock books, but from personal observation I can't remember seeing any in revenue earning service post 1977, although I'd love to be proved wrong.

I wouldn't worry too much about lettering for the CCT. Most such ex SR wooden stock was in an indescribably filthy state most of the time; so much so, it was often difficult to tell what the body colour was lurking under the rail dirt brown covering.

Thanks very much, think I'll drop Mr Hanson a line and see if I can pick up a bargain to glue them too, despite not being overly fussed about the 50s, they are EE so do need some attention laugh.gif
