First resin castings...........

Red Devil

As I mentioned before, I've been messing about with masters, moulds and resin for a little while, this below is one of the first mouldings I've produced, it's a roof for a Leeds Lance Corporal tram, the master was made from plasticard and strip, the mould is then made using a 2 part room temperature vulcanising rubber, eventually the mould is used to cast the roof section in the resin which is again 2 parts mixed together.

I'll be honest and say that the casting has had a fair bit of fettling and a coat of primer, but, I'm pretty happy with the overall result and how easy it is to do when you get used to it.

I've been using the Alumilite resin available from Nigel Lawton, ease of use is exceptional. I've also been working on the castings for the Lance Corporal trucksides (not available as a casting anywhere) and also a chassis unit, designed to take a Halling 35mm wheelbase drive unit, this will also have the stairs and platforms and hopefully be cast as one unit.........

Body master is ongoing work, could be some time..............!

The three Lance Jacks on Leeds Trams were all made from whitemetal kits - so somewhere in the world a master is lurking! Interesting roof as all of the Miggie Bogies on Leeds Trams are made the same way as are a lot of the building parts.

Hopefully some of Leeds Trams is on its way back into Public view BUT NOT the whole 48' of tramathon

I believe that nearly all the masters for the Tramalan stuff still exists but seemingly there's little interest in casting any, hence my efforts, the roof shown has it's origins in two tower model RT bus roofs, that a lot of isopon and a few bits of evergreen strip, don't know if I'm going to continue with it at the moment, concentrating on the Midd Bogie shapeways thing and a scratchbuilt 301/LCC1, if the Midd Bogie Works, a more Lance Corp will happen.

So if you've go any Tramalan kits get them on Ebay now, last Midd Bogie I saw on there made about £130, which is a bit daft money really.
